Page 6 - shelby shopper & info - 704/484-1047 The truth shall set us free For hundreds of years, throughout dozens of genera- tions, the Israelites were held captive within the land of Egypt. Each day a carbon copy of the last. Enslaved in labor camps with little or no hope for change. So sick were they of their lives, they cried out to God each and every day, begging to be re- leased from their chains. Finally, one day short of what seemed to be eternity, a de- with Richard Prow rpcrosswords@gmail.com liverer by the name of Moses was sent with the keys that would unlock the prison doors. Out of Egypt and their centu- ries old bondage they marched, straight through the Red Sea with the Promised Land as their ultimate destination. At the fi rst setback however, even with their age-old en- slavement fresh on their minds, they began to complain. In- credibly, the majority openly desired to go back to their old way of life. Incredulously, imprisonment seemed better than freedom. We can mock the Jewish people of that day for their inane way of thinking, yet after some 3000 plus years, man has changed very little, if any. Be it through alcohol, drugs, sexual perversions, physical abuse, fear, greed, etc., most of us are in bondage to some- thing. It may be something we’ve discovered on our own or it may be something passed down from one generation to the next. Whatever the case, we remain enslaved. We beg for God to free us, most often in the wee hours of the night when sleep won’t come. We swear we’ll never go back to that life we’ve grown to despise, if only God will grant us a fresh start. He does and we make it for a few hours, may- be even a few days or months. But at the fi rst diffi cult step on the road to freedom we longingly look back to the prison from which we so desperately wanted to escape. Before long we fi nd ourselves immersed in our old ways. Locked up again. Tune in next week for a way out. YARD SALES ARD SALES 2 FAMILY YARD SALE. Rain or shine. Will be under roof!
