Music People John Scarpulla, George Kilby Jr. and George Breakfast will perform ‘in the round’ at the Autumn Cafe on Dec. 9. Three veteran singer-songwriters are coming together for a night of music at the Autumn Cafe in Oneonta at 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9. George Breakfast, of Cambridge, England, will join George Kilby Jr of Blenheim/New York City and John Scarpulla of Cobleskill. All three have serious clout in the music scene, and will offer a mixture of Americana, blues, roots and country tunes. Breakfast, a friend of Kilby Jr.’s, is making a rare appearance in the U.S., and is doing several dates in New York City and the Capital Region. Kilby and Breakfast have collaborated regularly on CD and on stage. Kilby has recorded three of Breakfast’s tunes, and Breakfast tours in Kilby’s band in Europe twice yearly. John Scarpulla will add his soulful songs, several of which are featured on his recently released album, “Before the Streetlights Come On.” The three will be on stage simultaneously, performing “in the round,” which will allow the artists to talk with the audience and with each other as they take turns describing and performing each song. John Scarpulla How did you get your start in music? Streets and subways in New York City. What inspires your songwriting? The songs come from everyday events, sounds, heartache, joy, love, fear, worry and revelation. Who are your favorite artists? Van Morrison, Grateful Dead, Martin Sexton, Amos Lee, Joni Mitchell. What is one of your favorite memories from playing a live show? So many, but it was a treat to sit around a fire in the Adirondacks and share songs with Sexton. Have you performed in Oneonta, and what are you looking forward to about the upcoming show at the Autumn Café? I have played a few dates in Oneonta. Looking forward to hearing the Georges in an intimate environment. Contributed 18 O-Town Scene Dec. 2, 2010
