TV Time ‘The Sing-Off’ "The Sing-Off" is this crazy addictive a cappella singing competition that took up a full week of my prime-time life last December. And it’s back this year with ten of the best a cappella groups in the country ranging from high school singers to senior crooners. My favorite named group is Pitch Slapped from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Other groups include the oldest a cappella group in the world, The Whiffenpoofs of Yale, and Jerry Lawson & Talk of The Town, with 40-year Persuasian member Lawson leading the pack. The show premieres Mon- day, Dec. 6, from 8 to10 p.m. on NBC. It will continue Wednesdays and Mondays, with a finale Dec. 20, when one group will win a Sony Music recording contract and $100,000. Contributed Celebrity judges include Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five), Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men) and Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls). And they know what they’re talking about, unlike some “soda”- sipping judges from other singing competition shows. The singers will be perform- ing sans back-up bands or lip-synching. Last year, the talent was incredible.
