Lunch & a Study of the Bible First Thurs. of Each Month at Central Methodist First Thursday -- Lunch with Susan will be celebrating its twenti- eth year. This is a Shelby institution that is barely noticed, but one that draws many women and men each month to Central Methodist Church for a community gathering for lunch and a study of the Bible. The teacher is Susan Carlisle Bell, an art instructor at Gardner-Webb University. She also has a masters degree in Christian education. Lunch is noontime to one o’clock. Mothers of young children, and those on lunch break will appreciate that Susan begins the teach- ing at 12:10 and finishes by 12:50 p.m. There is no “homework,” no membership, and lunch is optional at $4.00. **Reservations are required for the lunch and nursery care**. New Buffalo Baptist Church, Shelby BIG COUNTRY BREAKFAST at the church with all of your Favorites, on Saturday, Sept. 18th at 7:00 am until.... This event is sponsored by the Seniors of our church. New Buffalo Baptist Church is located on Lavender Rd. Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church We will hold a Car Wash, Hotdog Sale and Face Painting Saturday, September 18th beginning at 8:00 am. Cliffside Baptist Church Poor Man’s Supper A Poor Man’s Supper will be held at Cliffside Baptist Church Fellowship Building on Saturday, September 18, 2010, from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. Proceeds to the Women’s Conference to be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010. Cost of the meal is by donation. Elizabeth Baptist Church Living Proof Live Simulcast featuring BETH MOORE will be held via satellite at Elizabeth Church in Shelby, NC on Saturday, September 18, from 10:30am - 5:00pm. Grace United Methodist Church Breakfast Grace United Methodist Church will have a Country Style Buffet Breakfast (All You Can Eat) on Saturday, September 18, from 6 until 10 am for a donation of $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 7 thru 12. Lafayette Street United Methodist Church There will be a High-Spirited Gospel Music & Singing held at the LSUMC Fellowship Hall on Saturday, September 18, at 6:30 PM. The singing will feature the quartet “Grateful”. Other singers will be Rev. Tom Steagald, Susan Canipe plus Beverly Engelhart and Diane Carter. There is no admission charge, but a love offering will be held to benefit the LSUMC Blanton Scholarship Fund. Free refreshments will, also, be available. Galilee United Methodist Church Galilee United Methodist Church will be having a Hugh Yard Sale Saturday, September 18, starting at 6:00 a.m. and Fish Fry starting at 9:00 a.m. The event will be held at 910 Shelby Highway across from Wiener Work and the Old Wade Ford building. Glenwood Baptist Church, Bostic, NC Glenwood Baptist Church, Bostic NC will be having their 8th Annual Autumn in the Foothills, Southern Gospel Singing (outdoor event) Friday, September 24 (begins at 6pm) and Saturday, September 25 (begins at 5pm) at the church, located 2 miles East of Forest City, NC – Off of US Hwy 74 Business. Concessions will open one hour before the singing on both days. Grilled hotdogs, hamburgers, BBQ and Fixins, homemade desserts. Gloryland Missionary Baptist Church First Annual Barbecue Benefit & Breakfast Gloryland Missionary Baptist Church will hold their First Annual Barbecue Benefit on Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25 from 11 am-6 pm. Plates are $8.00, which includes BBQ slaw, baked beans, 2 rolls, and dessert. Come enjoy outside music and fellowship. Breakfast will be served on Saturday (25th) from 7 am-10 am. First Wesleyan Church, Cherryville, NC The First Wesleyan Church of Cherryville will celebrate “Homecoming Sunday” on September 26th. The day will start with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and the morning worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with special music by the Fishers. We are excited to have Blake Carpenter with us as our guest speaker in the morning worship service. Many will remember Blake as a former member of First Wesleyan. Blake is the son of Brenda & Carroll Carpenter of Cherryville and grandson of the late Stella Ballard who was a long- time member of the church. Blake graduated from Davidson College and completed a Master of Divinity degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Blake has studied in France, taught French at both the university and secondary levels, and was an English lec- turer at the Université de Nice. Blake is currently a French Lecturer at the University of Texas in Arlington, Texas. Immediately following the worship service, we will have a covered-dish lunch in the J. W.
