Sunny September...We continue through another rather warm and dry month. Not only is the rain avoiding our area, but most of the Southeast is escaping the clouds and rain. The jetstream and the developing “La Nina” status will con- tinue a while longer to keep our area under the influence of strong high pressure. This means storms and even clouds don’t get close to our area for a very long time yet. In fact, the earliest I see any chance of rain for us is about the last few days of the month, so this will likely be an extremely dry month for many. The low humidity and sunshine will also make for high wild fire danger in the region, so be extremely careful with any burning outside. Hurricane “Igor” is a powerful category 5, one of the strongest storms in the Atlantic on record, but fortunately will stay offshore, and it could affect Bermuda. I wish I could offer up some hope on the rain chances, but I just don’t see anything for a while. Meanwhile, the northern states have cold air and close-to- snow conditions next week.
