Lake Lure Mayor Carol Pritchett and Pastor Alex Heafner, from Chimney Rock Baptist Church, welcomed guests and presented a few remarks. Flowering Bridge Chairwoman Kathy Tanner led the countdown for turning on the lights. Elementary students from the Lake Lure Classical Academy presented special music, led to the stage by Santa Claus himself. The festivities concluded with Lake Lure Flowering Bridge volunteers serving cider and cookies. The crowd was less than in the past due to the below freezing temperatures. The Flowering Bridge gets brighter and brighter The Rutherford County Senior Center is taking applications for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). CSFP is a Federal program administered by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Food Distribution Division for NC residents. The Food items are provided by USDA and distributed through Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. The Program provides a monthly box of food designed to supplement the nutritional needs of low-income senior citizens. Kisha McDowell directs the LEAP program which is Leaders & Entrepreneurs for the Advancement & Promotion of Youth for ages 9-17. Jerry Freeman is the music teacher. Keith and Glenn Earley of the Sound Connection provided sound and lights. A near capacity crowd enjoyed the program and were treated to hotdogs following the program.
