GET A BARGAIN- BE A BLESSING GET A BARGAIN- BE A BLESSING The All Kids Bike Kindergarten Learn- to-Ride Program at Spindale Elementary School is complete for the school year with plans to begin the curriculum again in September or October, said Physical Education teacher Susan Womick. The fl eet of 24 bikes, pedal conversion kits, helmets, one teacher instruction bike, and certifi ed curriculum teacher training, was granted to Spindale with funding by Foothills Regional Commission, Safe Kids Rutherford-Polk, and Foothills Health District. Spindale is the fi rst All Kids Bike school with plans for other programs. Before learning to pedal, there were sessions for helmet fi tting and bike seat fi tting. All Kids Bike is a national movement led by the Strider Education Foundation, which is a 501(c)3 organization formed in 2017. The All Kids Bike Learn to Ride Program was launched in 2018 and is actively running in over 900 schools in all 50 states. Litter Sweep Wrap-Up Article Provided By: ncdot The North Carolina Department of Transportation has collected nearly 3.6 million pounds of litter on the roadsides so far this year. About 623,000 pounds were collected over the two-week Spring Litter Sweep initiative, but they want to remind everyone that litter does not belong on the roads. They encourage everyone to report littering by using the Swat-A-Litterbug app and to support the effort to beautify our roads during our fall Litter Sweep. Confederate Memorial Day May 10 was celebrated Saturday, May 13 at the Rutherford County Courthouse CSA Monument by Sons of Confederate Veterans Lt. William Corbett Camp #525 Rutherfordton and The Rutherford Rifl es Camp #2044 Forest City. Guest speaker was the Rev. Herman White of High Point who is the NC Division Chaplain of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and past National Chaplain. Confederate Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for veterans from Rutherford County and all across the south who died during the war of northern aggression. The anniversary also represents General Stonewall Jackson's death on May 10, 1863. The Sons of Confederate Veterans Camps from the Rutherfordton and Forest City camps placed fl ags on Confederate Veterans graves in over 24 county cemeteries during the past week to honor Confederates, said member Terry Henderson, shown in the photo (left, top).
