"Teachers don't receive the recognition they deserve and are among the most infl uential people in shaping our children. We'd like to take this opportunity to recognize Mrs. Nicole Hawkins, a phenomenal 4th grade teacher at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy. Our child started at TJCA this year and as most are aware, the school is very challenging and focuses on preparing children for college. Being a new student, Mrs. Hawkins welcomed her with open arms from Day 1, evaluated where she was at, and has gone out of her way to ensure she's had a smooth transition. Thanks to Mrs. Hawkins, a few noticeable skills our child has developed and excelled at this year, in addition to the academic curriculum, include her organizational skills, her perseverance and not being afraid to voice her opinion. Our child absolutely loves Mrs. Hawkins who is consistently fi nding creative ways to make learning fun, which is a real difference maker for the kids. A few examples were her innovative science projects, themed activities around lesson plans and a Mother's Day poem book she helped the kids write. Her communication with both the students and us parents is second to none and has always been very clear & concise, which as any parent would attest to is so important. Mrs. Hawkins also offered free after-school support to fi ll in the gaps in a couple areas where our child needed a little extra assistance.
