Summer Art Camp 2023 registration is now open. Check out our Summer Art Camps and enroll today. All classes will be held at the Arts Council, 111 S. Washing- ton St., Shelby. June 12 – 16 Bluey's World Serra Shuford It's gonna be a G'day every day in this camp as we cre- ate all sorts of art inspired by everyone's favorite Blue Heeler, Bluey! We will learn how to draw Bluey and Bingo in a large watercolor painting, sculpt our favorite Bluey char- acters and scenes, and even make our own Bluey Tie Dye T-Shirts! And that's just the beginning, this is a camp you will not want to miss! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders June 12 - 16 The Zoo After Dark Caitlin Greene Take a trip through the zoo after dark! We will explore animals and reptiles that you would see at the zoo. Come create amazing art about these animals and even imag- ine yourself as a zookeeper. We will be painting, building, drawing and much more. Each camper will take home their own mini black light at the end of the week! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders June 19 – 23 Art in the Disney Parks – Preschool Camp Caitlin Greene Let's take a trip to Walt Disney World and create art inspired by the most magical place. We will explore each of the parks throughout the week and recreate some of our fa- vorite characters. We will be painting, building, drawing and much more. 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm 4 and 5-year olds June 19 - 23 It's All About Paint Cindy Sanders This week is all about paint- ing……with everything except paintbrushes! We are going to drip it, roll it, throw it, .... what- ever you can imagine! Be prepared to get messy! Come wearing your old clothes and get ready for some fun! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders June 19 - 23 Art Around the World Emily Gladden Come fill up your passport as we travel together to a dif- ferent continent every day. Students will get to explore different cultures and make various art styles inspired by the continent we learn about each day. We will paint, draw, and so much more! If you like adventure, and travel, don't miss out! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders June 26 – 30 Beginning Guitar Al Dunkleman Interested in learning how to play the guitar? In this class you will learn basic acoustic folk/bluegrass/country chord- ing and strumming tech- niques. You will learn how to hold the guitar, finger chords and hold and use a pick. Dur- ing this week the goal will be for students to successfully learn and strum a simple two/ three chord song individually and as a group. Students must bring their own guitar. 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 2nd – 8th graders June 26 - 30 It's a Beautiful World! CJ Norris & Casey Quinn The theme this week is "Nature"! Students will have a unique opportunity to explore and create artwork inspired by the natural world by working with a variety of mediums: ce- ramics, painting, and drawing. Students will experiment with different clay techniques, such as pinch pot, slab building, and coil building creating pots for growing plants. They will explore different watercolor techniques creating beautiful and colorful nature-inspired artworks. Students will be en- couraged to observe and inter- pret the natural world around them, and to express their ob- servations through drawing. They will learn about different drawing techniques, such as shading and perspective, and will use them to create draw- ings. This art camp will pro- vide a fun and engaging way for students to learn about and appreciate the beauty and di- versity of the natural world, while developing their artistic skills and creativity. 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 2nd – 8th graders June 26 – 30 Puzzled about clay? Hannah Sidner In camp this week we'll be making jigsaw puzzles out of clay. Each student will get to make their own puzzle, using both relief and carving tech- niques to give dimension to their work. We'll color the puzzles with vi- brant underglazes and deco- rate cardboard boxes to bring home a fun project the whole family can enjoy! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders July 10 – 14 Beginning Woodworking I Al Dunkleman This class will focus on the basics of working with wood. Students will learn how to use a sanding block, hammer, nail set, and screwdriver, along with finishing techniques. All materials, tools, safety glasses and dust masks will be provided. Students will not operate any power tools as all projects will be precut and predrilled for gluing and assembling. Projects: napkin holder, tool caddy, bird feeder, toy car. 9:30-11:30 am Rising 2nd – 8th graders July 10 – 14 Beginning Woodworking I Al Dunkleman This class will focus on the basics of working with wood. Students will learn how to use a sanding block, hammer, nail set, and screw- driver, along with finishing techniques. All materials, tools, safety glasses and dust masks will be provided. Students will not operate any power tools as all projects will be precut and predrilled for gluing and assembling. Projects: condiment caddy, small stool, bird house, toy car. 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 2nd – 8th graders July 10 – 14 Disney After Dark Caitlin Greene The magic of Disney, but with glowing, fluorescent art materials! Each day we will create artworks inspired by your favorite characters and movies. We will be painting, building, drawing and much more. Each camper will take home their own mini black light at the end of the week! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders July 10 14 Mermaids and Unicorns Cindy Sanders This week is going to be all about mermaids and uni- corns! Just like us, mermaids and unicorns are very unique creatures! We will explore painting, collage, glitter and so much more as we also explore the exciting world of mermaids and unicorns! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders July 17-21 Beginning Woodworking II Al Dunkleman This class will focus on the basics of working with wood. Students will learn how to use a sanding block, hammer, nail set, and screw- driver, along with finishing techniques. All materials, tools, safety glasses and dust masks will be provided. Students will not operate any power tools as all projects will be precut and predrilled for gluing and assembling. Projects: storage crate, bird house, serving board, toy car. 9:30-11:30 am Rising 2nd – 8th graders July 17-21 Beginning Woodworking II Al Dunkleman This class will focus on the basics of working with wood. This is the class for you! In this class we will be making Christ- mas themed crafts, including snow globes, ornaments, and garlands. May your days be merry and bright! 9:30 – 11:30 Rising 1st – 8th graders July 17 - 21 Knights and Castles and Dragons, Oh My! Megan Allen Join us as we explore fairytale kingdoms and the people (and creatures) who inhabit it! We will make art inspired by castles with prin- cesses, knights in shining armor, and flying dragons! We hope you can join us in our quest to protect the kingdom! 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders July 17 – 21 Time for Dessert! Serra Shuford In this camp we will be making dessert themed art based on all your favorites like ice cream, cupcakes, and donuts! You will make art that is so mouthwatering it will be hard to resist taking a bite, but don't worry, there might be some edible treats as well! *Please make the arts council aware if your child has any food allergies 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders July 24 – 28 Mr. Gonzo's Exemplary, Magnificent, Truly Spectacular Painting Extravaganza! Steven Pruitt Come join us for a fun filled week of paint. During this week we will explore various techniques and subjects as expressed through paint. Stu- dents will be submerged in a world of color, wonder, and fun as we explore color as we see it in our surroundings and in our imaginations. So… Come one come all! You won't be sorry you came! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders July 31 – Aug. 4 Pokémon Save the World Steven Pruitt This week we will create projects based on the beloved characters of the Pokémon universe using recycled mate- rials. We will work together in a fun adventure packed week to create Pokémon themed art from discarded materials. We will learn how we can re- purpose objects from our en- vironment that are considered trash to create beautiful works of art while helping to keep our world clean. Join Pikachu, and the gang for an amazing ad- venture filled week as we dive deep into the world of Poké- mon. Be prepared for anything and most of all remember… We Gotta Catch Them All! 9:30 – 11:30 am OR 1:00 – 3:00 pm Rising 1st – 8th graders July 31 – Aug. 4 Peace Ponds and Zen Gardens with Clay Hannah Sidner This week students will make a zen garden and a koi pond out of clay. Students will form their ponds and sculpt their fish to make koi ponds, and we'll use glass in the kiln to create the effect of water. In such in- stances, previously paid fees will be fully refunded. Parents who need to withdraw their child/children from any Sum- mer Arts Camp should con- tact the Arts Council at the earliest time possible. You will receive a refund, less $10 ser- vice charge per camp session only when notice is received at least a minimum of five (5) business days before the first class meeting. We will transfer your child to a later session if space is available. Cleveland County Art Council Summer Art Camp 2023 Four members of the Cleveland Community Col- lege baseball team received 2023 Region 10 Division II awards. Named to the All- Region First Team were pitcher Jamisen Eichacker and infielder Kael Snethen. Pitcher Kyle Murphy was named to the All-Region Second Team and Infielder Tyler Casciato was named to the Gold Glove Team. Eichacker, a sophomore from Mooresville, NC went 10-1 on the season with 2.89 earned run average and struck out 83 batters. His 10 wins at the end of the regular season tied for first place among all NJCAA Di- vision II pitchers. Snethen, a sophomore from Rutherford- ton, NC (R-S Central) batted .405 with 28 RBI's, 43 runs scored and 40 stolen bases as the Yetis' shortstop. He finished the regular season in third place in the NJCAA Division II standings for sto- len bases. Murphy, a sopho- more from Gainesville, GA went 6-2 on the season with a 3.90 earned run average and 76 strikeouts. He also saw time as a designated hitter and infielder. Casciato, a sophomore from Pitts- burgh, PA, posted a .981 fielding percentage in 105 total chances, converting 12 double plays and committing only 2 errors as the Yetis' second baseman. He batted .306 with 22 RBI's and 30 stolen bases. "Jamisen and Kyle put us in a strong position to win Region series games as starters on the mound," said Head Coach John Grigg. "Snethen and Casciato were our one-two punch at the top of the batting order and set the tone on the base paths."
