The event is slated for Monday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Shelby City Park Gymnasium. Appalachian State University head football coach Shawn Clark will be the guest speaker. Three football standouts are among the 2023 induction class. They include Shelby High/South Carolina product Mike Haggard, Crest/Winston-Salem State star Herbert Harbison, and former Shelby/Gardner-Webb All-American Rodney Rob- inson. Also scheduled for induction are Susan Bolt Briggs, who achieved stardom on the basketball court for Burns High and Gardner-Webb. In addition, successful pro bass fi sherman Matt Arey will be inducted. The sixth member of the Hall of Fame class is longtime soc- cer offi cial Glenn Davenport, who has also served as Shel- by High football team chaplain under fi ve Golden Lion head coaches. He has also been the coordinator of soccer offi cials in the area for many years. Tickets are $10 apiece and can be purchased at Shelby City Park, Medical Arts Pharmacy in Shelby, plus the offi ces of the four public senior high schools in Cleveland County. Along with the hall of fame inductions, a number of other special awards will be presented. They include the honor ath- lete selections from the four county high schools plus Gard- ner-Webb, the Paris Yelton Memorial Service Award, and the Fan of the Year recognized by WOHS radio. Many athletes who also achieved special recognition in their sport will receive Certifi cate of Merit awards from the county sports hall of fame committee.
