Whiteside The Cleveland County Arts Council invites art- ists 18 and older to sub- mit work to the Annual Cleveland County Artist Competition. Work must be original, created by the artist within the last 2 years and not previously entered in a competition at the Arts Center. Art- ists must be residents of Cleveland County or full- time students at a Cleve- land County college or university. Entries may be two and three dimensional. Paintings, drawings, sculpture, print-making, and fine craft will be ac- cepted. All two-dimen- sional entries must be ready to hang with picture wire on the back. No saw tooth hangers. The Arts Council reserves the right to reject any entry that re- quires special installation. The entry fee is $30 for up to two entries, ad- ditional entries $5 each (max. four). Artwork must be delivered to the Arts Council, 111 S. Washing- ton St. on May 18 and 19, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The judge for this year's show is Kristina Anthony, the Exhibitions Manager at Hickory Mu- seum of Art where she has worked for the past 17 years. Anthony has been involved in hun- dreds of exhibitions in- volving all media – from paintings to prints to in- stallation art. Her career has allowed her to work with nationally and inter- nationally known artists including Mel Chin, Juan Logan, Orna Ben-Ami, and Steve McCurry. Kristina earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the Col- lege of Wooster in Ohio and has done graduate work in Museum Exhibi- tion Planning and De- sign at University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She is currently serving as President of the Board of Directors for Rock School Arts Foundation in Valdese where she re- sides. Awards will be pre- sented in the following amounts: First Place $500.00, Second Place $250.00, Third Place $125.00 and three Honor- able Mention Awards for $50.00 each. The opening reception and awards presentation will be on Thursday, May 25, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibit will remain up through June 20.
