Of I Former Rutherfordton resident John McWhorter, a watercolor sketch artist, recently had his work displayed in a special show hosted by Trinity Oaks Retirement Community in Salisbury where John and his wife Frankie live. The art show titled, "Coping With Covid" shared how thankful the residents were for the administration and staff who worked hard to keep residents safe and healthy both mentally and physically during the global pandemic. "I wanted to record how residents of Trinity Oaks Retirement Community attempted to keep their normal routines while also trying to be safe during the early days of the pandemic. Also how the staff of Trinity Oaks would keep us safe and make sure we continued to have important and safe social interaction," John said. "We know we were very fortunate to be among those who survived," John said. The sketches captured neighbors, friends, and staff in many settings at Trinity Oaks masked, socially distanced but getting on with living in 2020-2022 during the pandemic. "During early days of COVID, the mail wasn't the only delivery," John said. " Staff hopped on a golf cart to bring us a bit of joy in a "movie" wine down," he said. "A special thanks to Trinity Oaks for sponsoring this exhibit and allowing these watercolor sketches to illustrate our Coping with Covid," John added.
