RUTH SNYDER H. Ruth Snyder, 94, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Me- morial Hospital and Health Care Center. She was born in Alford, on January 7, 1928, to Carlin and Flossie (Scudder) Preston. Her first husband, Fred Malotte, passed away in 1974. She married H. Robert Snyder in 1983, and he pre- ceded her in death in 2014. She was a lifelong resident of Pike County. She worked as a bookkeeper, and she spent many years as the trea- surer for Pike Central High School before she retired in 1992. She was a faithful member of the Petersburg Free Methodist Church where she served others in any way she could. Ruth's focus was always on her family. She cherished the opportunity to be a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother (MeMe). She approached life with a humble, loving, servant's heart that was no- ticeable to all those with whom she came in contact. She is survived by her daughter Michelle (Kyle) Bennett, of Jasper; one granddaughter, Claire (Mi- chael) Sutherby, of Haub- stadt; two grandsons, Evan (Kelsey) Bennett, of Spring Arbor, Mich. and Ethan (Tara) Bennett, of Fort Wayne; six great-grandchil- dren, Eden Bennett, Welles Bennett, Mason Sutherby, Brooks Sutherby, Brady Bennett, and Blaire Bennett; two sisters, Esther Bright, of Galion, Ohio and Mary ( Jer- ry)Carter, of Petersburg; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carolyn Henson; and two brothers-in-law, James Bright and Elza Henson, Jr. Ruth's journey is complete, and she is now at home with her Lord. She fought the good fight. She finished the race. She remained faith- ful. Her legacy will live on through her family and all those touched by her life. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Decem- ber 22, 2022, at Petersburg Free Methodist Church. Burial to follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery. Carter, 91, of Petersburg, was surround- ed by her family as she en- tered Heaven on December 19, 2022. She was born in Orlinda, Tenn. on November 23, 1931, to Fay and Willie-Anne Lane. She married John "Joe" Carter on February 21, 1948. They faithfully served to- gether in ministry for more than 45 years and were life- long best friends. They were blessed with two children: Gary (preceded in death) and Sandra (Carter) Phillips. Mar- tha was known for her gener- ous spirit. She loved the sim- ple things in life like cooking, gardening and spending time with her family, friends and church-family. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 74 years, Joe Car- ter; daughter Sandra (Car- ter) Phillips; sister Lillie Mae (Lane) Rippy; six grandchil- dren; nine great-grandchil- dren and the hundreds of peo- ple she humbly served at her kitchen table. A celebration of Martha's life will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, at Jesus Christ Our Firm Foun- dation church (formerly Voice of Believers Ministry) at 1415 N. Vincennes Ave, Petersburg. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery with Pastor Denny Wiscaver officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Online condolences may be made odharrisfuneralhome. com. JUDY ANN BARRET T Judy Ann Barrett, 77, of Fort Branch, passed away at Dea- coness Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, on December 18, 2022. She was born to the late Ar- mon and Rosalind (Kiesel) Sensmeier on November 14, 1945, in Haubstadt. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch and of the Sts. Peter and Paul Alter Society in Haubstadt. She graduated from Haubstadt High School in 1963. She ran an in-home daycare for many years. She enjoyed walking and being outdoors. She is survived by her three children, Mark (Pegah) Bar- rett, of Chicago, Ill., Jenni- fer (Kevin) Seibert, of Haub- stadt, and Beth (Kacey) Ross, of Evansville; sisters, Caro- lyn ( Jack) Zenthoefer, of Fort Branch, Patty (Terry) Lowen- kamp, of Indianapolis and Sherrie (Terry) Ziegler, of Haubstadt; and three grand- children. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her hus- band of 38 years, Gregory Bar- rett. A Mass of Christian Buri- al will be on Friday, Decem- ber 23, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch at 11 a.m. with Father Gary Kaiser as celebrant. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 22, at Stodghill Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Rosa- ry service at 7 p.m. and again on Friday, December 23, 2022, at Holy Cross Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until mass time. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Haub- stadt following mass. Donations in her honor can be made to the American Di- abetes Association and the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke Univer- sity. Middle school spelling bee winners PCMS recently had their spelling bee and the winners were Karly Gideon, eighth grade winner; Jaron Woolsey seventh grade winner and Mya Furman, sixth grade winner.
