Petersburg Senior Citizens meet in the Courthouse base- ment. Postcards at Sweets Col- umn Winslow, IN 47598 were one this week. This postcard has 4 pho- tos of a Red Riverfront trol- ley, a green street car, a horse drawn carriage with driver, and the Natchez Steamer Boat with letters New Orleans. This postcard reads: Hi Sweets had a great time at- tending the National Farm Convention in this city. Learned a lot about Louisiana Agriculture. Eating all the Ca- jun and Creole food has been great. Your friend, Max Car- lisle. Hi Max and thank you for the New Orleans postcard. We are pleased to hear from you and the convention in a different part of this country gives the farmer a new way of planting a crop. Glad you had a great time. A Christmas Card came in with Winter Wishes above a wreath covered in stars and poinsettias with a snow- man in the center wearing a holiday scarf and hat. Card reads: May the joy of the sea- son warm your heart. Have a wonderful Holiday season. Dave and Debi. Two stick- ers of Santa and a package. A note says: Hello Bar, we start- ed getting the Pike newspaper earlier this year. And I have to say, we enjoy reading your col- umns. Just wanted to let you know. Keep it up. Smiley Face. Thank you! Dave and Debi thank you for those kind words and I do enjoy writing about our areas and like you, I lived in Fran- cisco when the old 2 story school was standing before the tornado took it out. Hap- py to see Highway 64 through town is open for now and the road and new sidewalks look really great. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Winslow Patoka River is half full from the rain we had .8 tenths and we are about to get more than 2 inches in a two-day total. With more rain the Wabash and White Rivers may rise also. We al - so had dense fog in the am hours that delayed the start for school then one evening the fog was really dense all over Pike County. It was neat to drive into the fog then in- to the clear night, or look over to Riverside Park and not see anything but white fog. Our temps were chilly to cold in the 50s to a night temp of in the 30s with cooler weather to come next week. Lots more houses have lights, blow-ups, cutouts, and more decorations of this sea- son. Our area has a tree in the window but now they have lights on the stairs, then an- other star has lights on their porch. Second Street has one house with items and Janie and Mitch have started their yard of items like a nativity set, wagon pulled by a rein- deer, snowflakes, and much more. East End has the Bolin and Aikman houses with lots to see. Winslow finally got the wreathes hung up in town this past week and the gazebo is lit up in colorful lights. We took a road trip out of the county and saw more yards decorated all along Indiana 61, Indiana 64, and Illinois 15. Some houses still have the pumpkins on the porches. We also saw a field of sea gulls and there were sever- al flocks still waiting to land. Oh, what a beautiful sight. Festival of Lights were open for two days in Santa Claus, In- diana so Laura, Grace, Kyana, Daniel, Norm, and I all en- joyed the sections of Christ- mas trees, sheep, bears, pen- guins, big duck, the Grinch story, and hot chocolate after- wards. There were new items this year. Norm turned 65 years on the 8th and it was raining, but as he was talking to someone on the phone, she said if it rains then a change of Good- will will come your way. We hadn't heard that saying be- fore but he did have a great day with lots of wishes from many stars and 65 packs of gum and a cheesecake from Laura and Grace. He loves his wireless system for his guitar that he received early. A piece of cheesecake was brought over to mom and she ate it all. On another day Vernon and Dixie took him out for Mex- ican and celebrate Our Lady of Guadeloupe Day. Norm did have a wonderful day. We went to the special meet- ing and the arguing continued the whole time we were there from those who argue all the time and they called them- selves the citizens of Winslow. If they are to represent our cit- izens of Winslow, then I'm sor- ry to say they don't have the town's voice cause we don't argue over everything, we lis- ten, and then voice our view- points in a calm voice. Talking and arguing when the meet- ing is in session is not the way we Winslow citizens act. We wait to ask or say our view- points. I thought we were a friendly town. Our daughter Laura, who recently went back to work on Monday the 12th after having Grace on September 21st, had the normal mommy issues of the shedding of the tears and missing her baby like all moth- ers do. So we hope in time this will pass. To all the moms out there going through the same thing she knows what it is like. She was welcomed and greeted happily from her fellow night shift coworkers. I can't believe how time flies, it seems like just yesterday Grace was born, now she is 12 weeks old. Riverside Park has more trees cut down, but they look like they are still alive and not dead trees, but they are still cut down, and we may not have that shady area we thought we would have. One dead tree is still standing. Winslow could look a bit nicer and I would like to say sorry for our visi- tors or past stars who come in- to the town they love to come home to. The Girl Scout Cookie Sale is now here for your order un- til March when they are de- livered. So catch a Girl Scout and order your favorite sweet treat. They are $5 a box with new flavors. The lights are about to dim for this week but please keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all the won- ders in your area, wear your mask in crowds for their safe- ty, then as I always say smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week.
