The Press-Dispatch D-1 Wednesday, December 21, 2022 CHURCH Submit church items: Call: 812-354-8500 Email: news@pressdispatch.net or bring in a hard copy: 820 E. Poplar Street, Petersburg Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Eco- nomic Forum, recently Tweeted ,"God Is Dead'" and the WEF is "Acquiring Divine Powers." At first glance, his pronouncement is laugh- able. Men have been declaring God is dead for centuries. Marx, Freud, Nietzsche, Steven Hawking and a host of other luminaries have boasted of God's demise. They are dead and people still believe in God. To use a phrase attributed to Mark Twain, "The report of my death was an exaggeration." Saying there is no God is benign. Declaring God dead acknowledges God was once alive! Most people believe in something. Seventy percent of the world's population are adherents to either Christianity, Islam, Judaism, or Hin- duism. These folks haven't got the message that God is dead or irrelevant. Those who pro- mote the idea that God is dead have fallen in- to the satanic trap sprang on Eve in the gar- den. Man is God! There is some truth to this statement. Jesus quoted Ps 82:6 "I said, You [are] gods, And all of you [are] children of the Most High." Human beings are created in the image of God. Jesus outlines the difference between God and man: "Can any one of you by worry- ing add a single hour to your life? " Or "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell." That is power! Jesus says the first and great commandment is, "The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." His statement is the core of the first two command- ments given by Moses. Moses said there will be no other gods for you. You will not make any idols and you will not bow down or serve any idol. Rounding out the Ten is the last command- ment which says, you will not covet. Paul says the love of money is the root of all evil. Money does strange things to people. Ma- ny people will sell themselves for a few coins. Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. Je- sus said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to en- ter into the kingdom of God. Wealth becomes the idol. Henry Kissinger said, "Who controls mon- ey controls the world." Kissinger is implying wealth is power. Wealth is god. Many politicians enter elected office having small bank accounts and leave office wealthy. Let's get ready to ramble and see what thoughts arise today. It is hard to tell what will come from this mind. I know for certain Christ- mas Day is quickly approaching and I am not done with all my shopping. I try to get what my wife wants but for safety sakes I let her help pick out her present. Often times I can get her to find a few things she re- ally wants and then she lets me pick from her choices. Doesn't sound like a surprise but at least it will be something she has liked. At 74 years old I would rather be a little sure rath- er than disappoint her. Earrings are always a good choice because she really isn't into too much jewelry. I want to thank everyone who helped make our caroling in the park a success. I believe we had 14 or 15 singers. Our little throw- togeth- er choir really sounded great. I was amazed at the number of vehicles which stopped and actually got out to hear us and take pictures. It was really chilly tempera- ture-wise but it wasn't anything we couldn't put up with. I already have plans to have our singing again next year if we are all still able. It was nice to see Mrs Claus on the porch with us and waving to all the people going by. During the Christmas season she is quite busy and can be seen at many functions around the community. I thank the Nazarene church for opening their fellowship hall for hot cocoa although we didn't have any takers. Pastor Steve Hamilton said next year we will have our hot cocoa out at the park so more people can enjoy it. Thanks again for all help because you all made me very happy with the results of our first caroling ad- venture on the porch. I have heard from the singers that there were truly many blessings from our efforts. One day last week we were picking up and straightening up the house when my wife re- minded me that one of our clothing storage bins had the drawers falling out so with a lit- tle thought, we were able to cobble up a fix for the failing drawers. I guess I haven't lost all of weird ways of get- ting a little more run time out of things. When I worked at IPL, there were many times my- self and couple others would be asked to get a few more hours out of a piece of machinery un- The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co.
