Cleveland County Community Foundation Grants More than $20,000 to Local Nonprofi ts The Cleveland Coun- ty Community Founda- tion recently awarded $20,700 in grants to eight local nonprofi ts. The grants will support projects and programs that address: human services projects, food, shelter, clothing, fi - nancial stability, overcoming life obstacles and education. Through these grants, the Foundation invests in organizations and programs that strive to increase stability and opportunity for individuals and families in Cleveland County. Grants are awarded by the local Cleveland County Community Foundation Board of Ad- visors. Grants from this cycle include: $2,500 to the Earl Scruggs Center for educational programs; $2,500 to Habitat for Humanity for the Young Street Development in Shelby and $3,000 to the Mental Health Association of Cleveland County for their SOAR Program, which assists individuals who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness. "We are grateful for the opportunity to pro- vide fi nancial resources to support worthy nonprofi ts as they address critical needs in our community," said CCCF Board Chair Da- vid Schweppe. "The board is impressed with the quality of our 2022 applicants, and we encourage other local programs to consider us for funding in the future." One award recipient, Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry, works with households in emergency situations. Cleveland County is seeing a record number of requests for help with rent, food and utility bills, as many low-income families are feeling the results of infl ation during these diffi cult times. "This grant will be used immediately to help those in our community who are facing having their electricity turned off," says Lisa Harrison, Executive Director. "On behalf of these families in need, we would like to say thank you to Cleveland Community Founda- tion." Cleveland County Community Founda- tion is a regional affi liate of Charlotte-based Foundation For The Carolinas. The 2022 Grants from Cleveland County Community Foundation include: • $2,500 to Community Math Academy to its Bright Scholars program. • $2,000 to the Council on Aging of Cleve- land County for its Meals on Wheels pro- gram. • $2,500 to the Earl Scruggs Center for the music educational programs for 4th graders of Cleveland County. • $2,500 to Habitat for Humanity for the Young Street Development Project in Shelby. • $2,000 to Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry for its Emergency Utility Assistance program helping Cleveland County families facing cri- sis. • $3,000 to Mental Health Association of Cleveland County for its SOAR Program. • $1,200 to Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte to help keep Cleveland County families dealing with pediatric cancer togeth- er for treatment. • $5,000 to Washington Outreach Ministry for its emergency feeding program serving Cleveland County residents.
