Augustus Erwin Gregory Jr. of Shelby, NC passed away on September 24, 2022. Born August 19, 1927, he was the son of Augustus E. Gregory Sr. and Eva Wilson Gregory. Mr. Gregory served our country in The North Carolina National Guard. In addition to his parents, Gus is preceded in death by his brother, Gene Gregory. He is survived by his wife, Elaine. A funeral service was held September 28 in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. David Lee officiating. Burial followed at Cleveland Memorial Park in Shelby, NC. She was born in Middlesex, England, daughter of the late Emmit and Alice Frith Martin and was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Cassada; and her sister, Jean Roberts of England. She is survived by her children: Randy Cassada, Gastonia, NC, Robin Bradshaw, Kings Mountain, NC, and Teresa Gray and husband Jack, Denver, NC; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral service was held Monday, October 10, 2022 in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Deacon Bill Melton officiating. Interment was at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Basil "Junior" William Whelchel Jr., 75, of Gaffney, passed away on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022. Born in Gaffney, SC, he was the husband of Patricia Howington Whelchel and the son of the late Basil Whelchel Sr. and Elizabeth Falls Childers. Surviving Mr. Whelchel are his son, Jody Partin and wife, Judy; two daughters, Amy Gossett and husband, Mark, and Kristie Murray and Tom Downey; one brother, Paul Whelchel; three grandchil- dren; three great-grandchil- dren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whelchel was preceded in death by his father, Delmus Childers, his sister, Nancy E. Whelchel, and his brothers, Tommy Whelchel and Dwight David Whelchel. Funeral services were held October 8th, 2022 at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Interment followed at Oakland Cemetery. BERNARD GEORGE NAYLOR, JR. Bernard George Naylor, Jr., 55, of Blacksburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022. Born in Rhode Island, he was the husband of Erin McGarry Naylor and the son of Lorraine Nelson and the late Joe Nelson.
