Augustus Erwin Gregory Jr. of Shelby, NC passed away on September 24, 2022. Born August 19, 1927, he was the son of Augustus E. Gregory Sr. and Eva Wilson Gregory. Mr. Gregory served our country in The North Carolina National Guard. In addition to his parents, Gus is preceded in death by his brother, Gene Gregory. He is survived by his wife, Elaine. A funeral service was held September 28 in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. David Lee officiating. Burial followed at Cleveland Memorial Park in Shelby, NC. Surviving Mr. Whelchel are his son, Jody Partin and wife, Judy; two daughters, Amy Gossett and husband, Mark, and Kristie Murray and Tom Downey; one brother, Paul Whelchel; three grandchil- dren; three great-grandchil- dren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whelchel was preceded in death by his father, Delmus Childers, his sister, Nancy E. Whelchel, and his brothers, Tommy Whelchel and Dwight David Whelchel.
