Members of the club are first row, Bobby Norrington, Bob Hunley, Sammy Nelson, John Dayton, Maurice Woolsey, Robert Rountree, Ray Sims and Edsel Thompson. In the second row are Farreline Snyder (sponsor), Warren Hurt, Jack Houchin, Junior Norrington, DeWight Newton, Richard Clark, Danny Wilder and Donald Coleman. The third row, included Buthyl Luff, John Larr y Wright, Ray Ault, Bill Butcher, Hardy Tevault and Eugene Nel- son. The project is promoted by the Auxiliar y of VFW and the group will be chaper- oned by the auxiliar y. Par- ents of the young people are cordially invited to look in and enjoy the music and the fun. Center of Attraction: An eager guest inspects Princess Elizabeth's new engagement ring during a Royal Garden par ty at Buckingham Palace. The betrothal ring consist of one large diamond and two small diamonds in a plati- num setting. Deaths: Mrs. Flora Thomas, 79, formerly of Pe- tersburg, died T uesday, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hester Pennington, in Ter re Haute, she and her husband operated a neigh- borhood grocer y on south 5th street; Squire Grif fon, 78, formerly of Stendal, was found dead in bed, Saturday mor ning, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Ser- tel, of Oakland City; Adams J. Kemp, 73, retired railroad conductor and brakeman, died Sunday after noon, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Pruesz, of Wash- ington. Miss Kinder repre- sented the Winslow high school band. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sherl Kinder. Mrs. Thoren Wins Tro- phy at Horse Show: Mrs. Lloyd Thoren of Peters- burg placed in two dif ferent classes in the Francisco 4-H Horse and Pony show held Saturday, July 14 at Fran- cisco. She placed second in the English Pleasure Riding class and received a trophy for first place in the three gaited class inscribed "First place, Horse and Pony Show, July 1962." FIFTY YEARS AGO The Press-Dispatch Thursday, July 20, 1972 Bambi Smith Named Queen At 24th Annual Pag- eant: Miss Bambi Smith is Miss Pike County for 1972. First r unner up is Miss Denise Hume and second r unner up is Miss Kim Ris- ley. Miss Patty Oxendine received a plaque as Miss Harmony, chosen for this honor by the contestants. The queen and her cour t were chosen for these honors by three judges. Although the fair is not of- ficially opened until T ues- day, a large crowd was on the fair grounds Monday evening for the Gospel Sing and to enjoy the concession stands and rides on the mid- way. Freak Accident Leaves Boy Unconscious For Hour: Doug Craig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Craig, of Pe- tersburg, was taken by Har- ris ambulance to Daviess County hospital in Wash- ington following a freak accident. The accident hap- pened Friday night, July 14 around 9:30 p.m. in front of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg following the wedding and reception of his sister, Loreli. Doug and a group of boys were play- ing in the shaving cream that had been used to write on the couples get-away car. They were wiping it of f the car and slapping it in each others faces. One of the boys slapped Doug just as he opened his mouth laugh- ing. The cream his him in the mouth and as he gasped, he sucked the cream into his lungs and was unable to get his breath. His lungs were temporarily paralyzed and he was unconscious for nearly an hour. When ef for ts to call to call a phy- sician failed, the Peters- burg fire depar tment was notified. They r ushed to the scene and administered ox- ygen. Har ris Funeral Home was then summoned and he was r ushed to the hos- pital where he was treated and released to his home around midnight. He is re- por ted to be getting along nicely.
