"How lovely is your dwell- ing place, O Lord of Heaven's armies, I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole be- ing, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God" (Psalm 84:1,2,3 NLT), The writer longed to get away from the bustling world to meet God inside his dwell- ing place, his holy Temple. We can meet God anywhere, at any time. But we know that going into a church building can help us step aside from the busy mainstream of life so that we can pray and meditate. We find joy and strength not only in prayers but also in fel- lowship with other believers, the sermon and the music in such a special place. We are remembering those in pray who are in need of healing, whether it is physical or spiritual. May the Lord hear and answer our prayers. We invite you to worship with us. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. The 23rd Psalm has been a source of comfort to myriads of people in live and in death. Consider the following out- line and allow the Psalm to become a source of life and comfort to you, regardless of your circumstances and sur- roundings. The Lord is my Shepherd— That's Perfect Salvation. I shall not want—That's Perfect Satisfaction. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures—That's Perfect Rest. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness—That's Per- fect Guidance. I will fear no evil—That's Perfect Protection. Thou art with me—That's Perfect Company. Thy rod and Thy staff— That's Perfect Comfort. Thou preparest a table— That's Perfect Provision. Thou anointest my head— That's Perfect Consecration. The cup runneth over— That's Perfect Joy. Goodness and mercy shall follow me—That's Perfect Care. I will dwell...forever—That's Perfect Destiny. The Shepherd of Psalm 23 is best understood as Jesus the good shepherd in the gos- pel of John, Chapter 10. Author Unknown. The only place in the New Testament where the word freedom is used is Acts 22. In this passage, they had arrested Paul in Jerusalem for inciting a riot. He was about to be scourged. Paul mentions to the captain that he was a Roman citizen. A Roman citizen could not be scourged or crucified. Acts 22:28 The tribune answered, "I bought this citizen- ship for a large sum." Paul said, "But I am a citizen by birth." In the US, one is a citizen by birth or by naturalization. Both afford the citizen the same rights. Returning to the Declaration of Independence, we note the oft-re- peated refrain of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Jeffer- son claimed these are rights giv- en to us by our Creator. It is up to each citizen to take advantage of what these rights entail. Several weeks ago, I wrote about "FUD." FUD is fear, un- certainty, and doubts (some people could be in despair more than doubts). Since then, I con- tinue reading how fear is reach- ing epidemic proportions. Fear paralyzes many people. Fear of the known, unknown, future, past, present and so on. A con- sequence of living is fear. No law can prevent fear. We are living in a world over- taken by fear. Fear has many origins. How the government, through its various agencies, treats its people is a major source of fear. The news media, with its constant news cycle of the "this just in, the sky is falling, details in 10 minutes," incites fear. Presi- dent Roosevelt became president as the Great Depression was sweeping the country. In his first inaugural address, he spoke to this crisis of fear. "So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unreason- ing, unjustified terror which par- alyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance." Words of wisdom. The following quote rep- Ramblings Sunday afternoon and here I sit in front of my computer. It seems as though I spend lots of time on it and it is a good source to que- rie things you need to know, but I warn you there are things that do their best to decieve you and to take advantage of you. It is handy to be able to do some of your business online but it does seem as though they are replacing people so jobs are be- ing eliminated due to this trend. Right now it is a convience, yet I can see a time coming when all our business will be online. I am not a proponent of this and it would be nice to still have a choice. I am really close to being caught up with all the mess the wind storm left us with. It has been at least three weeks of sawing and hauling debris. My neighbor and I have lots of fire- wood to get rid of. Some of it is promised to a man who is busy putting up hay, but perhaps he will be able to get some of it soon. If you would like to get in on the free wood call 812-354-9597 Break with tradition The early part of my Chris- tian experience was closely identified with a denomi- national church that held dogmatically to the Acts 2 position. They were resting comfortably on the bed of tra- dition, and used its covers as security blankets to insulate themselves from the reality of God's Word, rightly divided. But with me it was somewhat different. I kept tossing and turning and was unable to get a good night's sleep, spiritu- ally speaking. Something was wrong with the bed that I had climbed into, but I was unable to put my finger on the prob- lem. The more that I studied and taught the Scriptures, the more restless I felt. Tradition said, "Teach what Jesus taught." But Jesus taught, "Go not into the way of the Gentiles…But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel" (Matt. 10:5,6). Tradi- tion said, "Walk where Jesus walked." But Jesus miracu- lously walked where no man has ever set foot before: "And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea" (Matt. 14:25). Tradition said, "Obey the commandments of Jesus." But Jesus commanded, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall Points to Ponder By Curtis Bond Minutes with the Bible By Pastor Paul M.
