HENRIET TA NEUK AM Henrietta Neukam, 101, of Dale, passed away at 5:45 p.m., on Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. Charles Health Campus, in Jasper. She was bor n Febr uar y 4, 1921, in Ireland, to Wil- liam J. and Clara (Weisman) Meyer. She married William Neu- kam on November 18, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland. She worked her entire life as a farmer and homemaker. She loved gardening, bird watch- ing, growing flowers and es- pecially being with her grand- children. She is sur vived by her son, Richard Neukam, of Dale; her daughter, Sharon Garland, of Dale; one brother, Wilfred Meyer, of Otwell; three grand- children; and two great-grand- children. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Neukam, who passed away March 27, 2009; two brothers, Melvin and Freder- ick Meyer; and a sister, Lovel- la Neukam. Funeral ser vices will be at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at St. James Lu- theran Church, in Holland, Reverend John Beasley will officiate. Burial to follow at St. James Cemeter y. BR ASHEARS Known as the owner and proprietor of The Wild Bird House in Naper ville, Charles "Chuck" Brashears, 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, in his home. Always a nature lover, Chuck and son Brandon op- erated the Wild Bird House business in the Gartner Plaza where he assisted many cus- tomers with providing prod- ucts related to birds and their environment. His friendly per- sonality easily turned strang- ers into friends. A native of Evansville, he graduated from Bosse High School in 1962 and was in- volved in Thespians and cheerleading. Many summers were spent at YMCA Camp Carson in Princeton, Indiana where he participated as a camper and eventually be- came a counselor throughout his high school years. He attended Hanover Col- lege for two years and then graduated from Indiana Uni- versity in 1966 with a BS in Zoology and a Minor in Busi- ness. After graduation he took a position as an epidemiologist with the Chicago Public Health Ser vice. During employment he joined the Air Force Re- ser ves where he ser ved in the O'Hare Hospital Reser ve Unit. Shortly after entering the Re- ser ves he became a Super vi- sor with Johnson & Johnson and was involved with opening a baby products plant in Lem- ont as a manager. In 1973 he moved to Ohio where he was employed with Avon for six years. In 1979 he accepted a position as Plant Manager for two Pillsbur y plants in Terre Haute and then transferred to Springfield in 1984 to manage the baker y mix and flour mill operations. In 1987 he was re- cruited to become Plant Man- ager for RJR/Nabisco at the Butterfinger and Baby Ruth plant near O'Hare. In 1996 he became the General Man- ager for Georgia Pacific box operation. After retirement in 1999, he opened the Wild Bird House in Aurora on Eola which then moved to Naper- ville's Gartner Plaza. He loved to travel, golf with friends and took many enjoy- able camping trips with his brothers including a three- month adventure to Alaska. He also traveled to Europe, Australia, and Nova Scotia, making great memories along the way. He was a long-time member of Grace Methodist Church. With his love of bird- ing, he enjoyed helping people select bird products and in- stall ponds. He is sur vived by his loving wife of 56 years, Treva (Nee Davis); his children, Brandon (Tiffany) Brashears, of Mont- gomer y, Ill., Brianna (Clay) Fuchs, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Brittan (Brent) Fatig, of Naper ville, Ill.; his grandchildren, Brayden Brashears, Cameron Wuest, Garrett, Holden and Warner Fatig; his brothers, David (Nancy) Brashears and Rick (Susan) Brashears; as well as, nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Kathr yn Brashears; and his granddaughter, Madison Du- rand. KINMAN David Wendell Kinman, 82, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022, at Cedarhurst, of Bloomington. He was born June 2, 1940 in Washington, and was the son of the late Wendell J. and Vir- ginia (Hendrix) Kinman. He worked with the School of Education for 35 years at Indiana University. Previous to IU he spent 15 years at the University of Wyoming in their School of Education. He was a member of multiple State and National Education- al Organizations. He was an accomplished commercial pi- lot and flight instructor. While at the University of Wyoming he would fly himself and his colleagues to various campus- es to teach night classes. After his retirement from Indiana University, David was a volun- teer at Bloomington Hospital. He was a member of Sher- wood Oaks Christian Church. He married Vina (Work- man) Kinman on August 16, 1964, and they enjoyed near- ly 58 years of marriage. Vina sur vives along with their daughter, Andrea Kinman; two sons, Matthew (Melissa) Kinman, and Keith Kinman; two grandchildren, Meghan (Jordan) Miller, and Noah Matthew Kinman; great grandson, Cameron Miller; a great granddaughter, Lexi Miller who is due in 3 weeks; and his brother, Phillip B. Third St., Bloomington. ALLAN W. HOUCHINS Allan W. Houchins, 68, went to be with the Lord, July 9, 2022. He was born April 6, 1954, to Paul and Pearl (Helder- man) Houchins. He retired from Hoosier Energy. Myers, 75, en- tered into rest at his home on Monday, July 4, 2022. Ron was born October 14, 1946 to the late Ted E. Myers and Billie Jo (Robling) (My- ers) Satterfield. He worked for the Pike County Circuit Cour t as a Bailif f for 14 years before retiring in 2014. He was also a member of the Oakland City Eagles Aerie #4288 and Oakland City American Le- gion #256. He was an avid NASCAR fan and had the late Dale Ear nhardt as his favorite driver. He also at- tended Lighthouse Chris- tian Church for several years and loved studying his Bible. He was also known to have a green thumb plant- ing a vegetable garden each year. Stemle, 90, of Jasper, passed away at 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg. She was born in Ireland, on July 28, 1931, to Henr y and Hilda (Knebel) Hauser. She married Robert Stem- le on November 27, 1954. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2015. She was a graduate of Jas- per High School. She was a music teacher for 30 years and was a daycare provider. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper and the singing seniors, and she was active in the DAV Auxilia- r y. She loved animals and en- joyed playing cards, singing, and painting. She is sur vived by her three sons, Zeph (Monica) Stemle, of Greenwood, Jayme (Tina) Stemle, of Greenwood, and Bart (Marla) Stemle, of Winslow; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Chuck was born on May 23, 1965 in Chestertown, Md., to James and Holly Wiltbank. He worked as a truck driver for most of his life. He enjoyed attending his nephew's motocross races, going to tractor pulls, attend- ing his niece's horse races, mowing yards, fishing, hunt- ing, camping, and outdoor activities. STEVEN LEE CORTEN (PYGMY) Steven Lee Corten, 67, of Petersburg, entered into rest on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Washington, on December 7, 1954, to the late Gaylord Corten and Ruth Wyatt (Selby). He spent most of his work- ing life working for the Unit- ed States Postal Ser vice in the processing warehouse. He enjoyed his work great- ly and took great pride in it. He was also a responsible and loving father that spent his younger years playing weekly games of Scrabble with his children and other family members. He was an avid spor ts fan and enjoyed billiards, playing cards. Most of all, Steven loved hanging out with his family and friends. He is sur vived by his daughter, Stacey (Darrell) Mootispaw; three grand- children; two great-grand- children and brother, Rick Cor ten.
