Gideon won the series finale on Thursday which made her the series cham- pion. The summer tournament season consisted of seven tournaments at courses through the Evansville area including Fendrich, Helfrich Hills, Quail Crossing, Cam- bridge, Thunderbolt Pass and McDonald's. On Thursday Gideon needed to place first or sec- ond to secure the season ti- tle. She thought she had lost it when early on in the round she made a 10 on a par five hole after hitting two balls in the water, but she rallied. "I was really proud of her. After making that 10 she parred the next four holes to shoot a 49," said her father,- Jarrod Gideon, who is Pike Central's boys and girls golf coach. Gideon won two of the seven tournaments and nev- er placed lower than fourth in any of the seven tourna- ments. The Evansville Junior Golf Association is a great program that has a season of tournaments for golfers from 7 to 18 boys and girls. Gideon shot in the mid to high 40s at all the tourna- ments. The 12-13 division plays nine hole matches. "They are pretty long for 12-year-olds, typically 2,500 to 2,700 yards which trans- lates into 5,000 plus yards for 18 holes, which is at least as long or longer than many of the high school girl's play. "It is a little bit of an advan- tage for Kady, because she hits it long," said Jarrod. Jarrod said Kady has been working hard on her game and it is paying off for her. He said even after winning the tournament and being named series champion she came home and then went and practiced.
