The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, July 6, 2022 D-3 Stop, look and listen Literature, painting, mu- sic—the most basic lesson that all ar t teaches us is to stop, look and listen to life on this planet, including our own lives, as a vastly richer, deeper, more mysterious business than most of the time it ever occurs to us to suspect as we bumble along from day to day on automatic pilot. ... When Jesus [says] that the greatest command of all is to love God and to love our neighbor, he too is asking us to pay attention. If we are to love God, we must first stop, look and listen for him in what is happening around us and inside us. If we are to love our neighbors, before doing anything else we must see our neighbors. With our imagination as well as our eyes, that is to say like artists, we must see not just their faces but the life behind and within their faces. Here it is love that is the frame we see them in. Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretar y Wesleyan OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812-354-3028 Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; morning worship at 10:30 a.m.; Sunday evening wor- ship ser vice at 6:30 p.m. Share God's love and word When God is an impor t- ant par t of your life, it's only natural that you'd want to share His love and word with ever yone you know. Sometimes, though, it can seem really hard to talk to others about your beliefs, even though God calls us to spread His word around the whole world. For tunately, there are a lot of ways you can be a witness for your faith—and remember, God calls each of us dif ferently, so it's okay to find the ap- proach that works best for you. Be open about your faith. Mention your beliefs when it fits into a conversation. Don't be shy about telling others that you believe in God—it gives them an op- por tunity to ask you more about it if they're curious. Share your salvation sto- r y with others. Be specific about how God has worked in your life. When you're connecting with others, look for oppor tunities to talk about how God has worked in your life. This can be especially helpful if you can relate to something they're going through. Ex- plain that you haven't al- ways been the person they see in front of you now, and talk about how you found God and the impact that had on you. "He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation" (Mark 16:15 NIV). The great thing about re- tirement is you can usually do pretty well what you want to do as long as it is legal and not harmful. We have worked on the mess in the yard now for six days and still have a tree that needs cut up and hauled of f. I'm star ting to think I have a new career working in this daggone storm's mess. I haven't forgotten to re- mind you and all of us to be a blessing to others when you have the opportunity. So long for this week. passages. Rom. 3:19: "Now we know that what things soever the law sath, it saith to them that are under the law, that ever y mouth may be stopped and all the world may be brought in guilty before God." Rom. 3:20: "By the law is the knowledge of sin." Gal. 3:19: "Wherefore then ser veth the law? It was added because of transgressions…." Thus the Law can only con- demn the sinner. But thank God, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is ever y one that hangeth on a tree" (Gal. 3:13). ing abortion a constitutional right. Earlier in the year, a draft ruling was leaked show- ing the cour t would over turn Roe V Wade. Six supreme cour t justices withstood the social, political, and media pressure, including threats of violence against their persons and stood their ground. It is a momentar y victor y over Sa- tan, but he is not going away. Our political leaders re- mained silent as the lives of court justices were threat- ened. Not a word of condem- nation from the president Biden or the speaker of the house Pelosi. The New York T imes in their Sunday Op-ed wrote, "How to Discipline a Rogue Supreme Cour t." In read- ing the ar ticle, it is obvious the T imes writer has little understanding of the Con- stitutional checks and bal- ances of the three branch- es of gover nment. The liberal left despises the Constitution and is de- termined to remake Ameri- ca in their image. An image devoid of God, lacking com- mon decency, while promot- ing turpitude. The same tac- tics the communists used to over throw Czarist Russia in 1917 are being used to fer- ment social upheaval and unrest in America. Their strategies are to humiliate, ostracize, vilify, and phys- ically confront anyone not allied with them. They riot knowing local of- ficials will not inter vene. Fer- guson, Seattle, Portland, and Minneapolis are examples. Pro-life centers are being told to expect protesters and possible mayhem and vio- lence.Pro-life politicians are being threatened. Corpora- tions are being urged not to do business in states that prohibit abortion. Advertisers are being pressed not to spon- sor sporting events in pro-life states. Pro-life Churches are being advised to keep their buildings secured when not in use and to heighten security. Pro-life Christians are in dan- ger as well. What are we to make of this? Satan's work is simple to spot because he operates us- ing a scorched earth policy. If he can't have it, he will de- stroy it. 'For where envy and self-seeking [exist], confu- sion and ever y evil thing [are] there, James 3:16.' As America continues down the slipper y slope to debauch- er y and hedonism, the devil is at work behind the scenes turning up the heat. Tell a pro-choice person 60-million babies have been abor ted in the US since Roe V Wade was enacted and watch their reaction. Few will comprehend the gravity of that statement. It doesn't enter their consciousness that these were human be- ings needlessly sacrificed on the altar of 'me.' They will scream "my body, my choice." I heard a profes- sor say to the class "Tthere's a lot worse things than abor- tion." Off-hand, I couldn't think of one. However, I am a male and I am told I should have no say in the matter. Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, chairperson of The Institute for Political Economy, said "Reproductive freedom" does not mean the right to kill the unborn. What abortion advocates need to understand is that society has the right not to be made complicit in the murder of unborn babies, and, as it de- veloped, born ones. Can I get an Amen?
