A-4 Wednesday, June 22, 2022 The Press-Dispatch Otwell Ruritan Celebration offers free rides By Sherri Sebella News Editor sherri@pressdispatch.net The Jefferson Township Ruritan Club received some exciting news last week that they will be offering a free ride night on Friday, July 1 this year thanks to the generous spon- sorship of AES Indiana. "This is the first time we have ever been able to provide this, so we are very excited to see the re- sponse from the community," 'Andrew Houtsch, President of the Jefferson Township Ru- ritan Club said. "Hopefully the weather cooperates." This year's Fourth of July celebration will stretch over a week. Activities will begin Sun- day, June 26 with a Commu- nity-wide church service, free will offering lunch and the Lit- tle Miss and Junior Miss Fire- cracker Contest. Activities will resume on Friday, July 1 and run continuously through Mon- day, July 4, with the First An- nual Supercross Triple Crown racing event, a Children's Ped- al Pull, and fireworks at dusk, closing out the celebration. SUNDAY, JUNE 26 Little Miss and Junior Miss Firecracker contests for girls ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 12 will be at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 26. A free will offering lunch is set for noon and community church ser vices begin at 11 a.m. in the community center. FRIDAY, JULY 1 The midway will open at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 1 with FREE rides, food trucks and the Young Farmers food stand. A cornhole tourney and the TTPAI garden tractor pull are both set to start at 7 p.m. SATURDAY, JULY 2 The fifth annual Firecrack- er volleyball tourney starts at noon Saturday with the mid- way opening at 5 p.m. Firecracker truck pulls start at 7 p.m. SUNDAY, JULY 3 The second annual flag foot- ball tourney is set for noon with the midway opening at 5 p.m. and tractor pulls starting at 7 p.m. MONDAY, JULY 4 A full slate of activities on July 4 begin with the Fire- cracker parade at 10 a.m. The Grand Marshals this year are: Vi, Tom and Amber Leehe. The midway will open at 11 a.m. A baby contest is set for 1 p.m. followed by a pedal trac- tor pull at 2 p.m. Supercross Triple Crown racing starts at 3 p.m. Fireworks are set to start at dark. Deer, mechanical problems blamed in recent accidents The drivers in two sep- arate accidents escaped serious injur y over the last week. A Winslow woman es- caped injur y Wednesday morning when her Jeep surged, causing her to lose control, run of f the road and crash into a tree. Ann Stephens, 46, of 211 N Main St., Winslow, was driving a 2014 Jeep Patriot south on the Cato-Winslow Road and said she was hav- ing trouble with the Jeep and couldn't press the gas ver y much or it would die, then it suddenly acceler- ated and she lost control, according to Pike County Deputy Sherif f Br yce Man- ning. Stephens was uninjured, but the Jeep, registered to Kaylene Stephens of the same address, had an es- timated $5,000 to $10,000 damage in the 7 a.m. crash. A Washington man swer ved to miss a deer and crashed into the woods on Highway 57 at 2:12 p.m. Sun- day, June 12. Robert E. Fidler, 61, was driving a 2017 Dodge Jour- ney south on Highway 57 when he tried to avoid a deer in the road. Fidler told Pike County Deputy Sheriff Br yce Manning he didn't remember anything after swer ving to miss the deer. Deputy Manning said Fidler had been unconscious in his vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to be evaluat- ed. His vehicle had an estimat- ed $5,000 to $10,000 damage. Robling arrested on child porn charges By Andy Heuring Editor editor@pressdispatch.net A rural Petersburg man was arrested on June 14 on child porn charges after sev- eral months of investigation by the Indiana State Police Evansville District Cyber Crimes Unit. Br yan Keith Robling, 33, of 2242 N. CR325 W, Petersburg, was taken into custody on charges of six counts of possession of child porn, a level 5 felony; four counts of possession of child pornography, a level 6 felony; three counts of ne- glect of a dependent, a level 6 felony and one count of possession of meth, a level 6 felony. Matt Jacobs with the In- diana State Police said he began the investigation on September 10, 2021 after being notified by Cyber Tips of child porn being shared in Facebook conversations utilizing Facebook Messen- ger ser vices to share "child sexual abuse material" with- in the group between June 2020 and May 2021, and in separate incidents shared three videos or images of children on Facebook Mes- senger between August 2020 and March 2021. Det. Jacobs in a probable- cause said in Januar y 2020, he requested a series of search warrants for Frontier Communication of American and Google on Robling's email and cellphone account. Det. Jacobs said after re- viewing Robling's accounts, he found several videos of both adult and child porn with children from ages four to 13 in the videos and imag- es involved in sex acts. On June 14, 2022 police obtained a search warrant for Robling's residence. Police went to his res- idence and his mother showed police which room was Br yan's, which he shared with three children, under the age of eight. According to the proba- ble cause, police located a cellphone, thumb drive, and desktop computer. "These items were triaged offsite and the thumb drive and desktop computer were re- turned to the residence. . . with nothing of evidentia- r y value" found, stated the probable cause. It also stated they found a white powder that field-test- ed positive for meth in the room. The probable cause states police confiscated Robling's cellphone. They found 12 images of child porn on the phone, according to the probable causes. At 1:46 p.m. on June 14, police went to NAPA in Pe- tersburg, where Robling works, and took him into custody. The annual Otwell Ruritan Fourth of July celebration will hold their parade on Monday, July 4, beginning at 10 a.m. through town, where the Ruritan Club will be presented its certificate for its 65 year anniversar y. Grand Marshal for this year is Tom, Amber, and Vi Leehe. Activities are planned for throughout the day, including the midway and rides, along with the famous BBQ chicken and rib dinner sales, baby contest, kids pedal pull, Super- cross Triple Crown Racing and the evening will wrap up around dark with fireworks for all to enjoy. Saturday, July 2, begins the annual volleyball tournament for the Otwell Ruritan Fourth of July celebration at 12 p.m. on the Ruritan grounds grass parking lot. This is the fifth year for this event, with between eight to ten teams signing up each year. "This has been a ver y exciting event to watch each year." Andrew Houtsch, President of the Jefferson Township Ruritan Club, said. "The teams play hard and have quite the battle." The Otwell Ruritan Fourth of July celebration would not be the same without the annual chil- dren's pedal pull, which will take place on Mon- day, July 4, beginning at 2 p.m. on the track.
