Petersburg seniors meet in the courthouse basement. Send postcards and notes of interest to: Sweets Col- umn, Winslow, IN 47598. There were no postcard this week. Winslow Patoka River is down from the rim with no rain to speak of, only 4/10th of an inch in three days. Our temp were comfor table for a couple of days, as the win- dows were open. Then, the temps rose along with the humidity. To add to the 90-100 degree days, an Excessive Heat Warning was here for almost a week, making it feel like 100-115 degrees. The news said this heat wave is worse than the 1980s; a new color code of pink is now the Excessive Heat Warning. The mowers in our area are still being heard. Norm has been drinking plenty of water and taking many breaks while mowing. Some areas in the yard are thicker than other sections; some areas have dampness, which bogs down the mower. Fireflies are seen more; some butterflies, one is white and the other yellow and black; red lilies, black-eyed Susans, daylilies and roses are all star t- ing to bloom. Lots of other yards in the area have more blooms to adorn. The houseplants are loving the shade tree rock garden. I planted some cockscomb and daisy like flowers in a big pot sitting on the porch. One day we passed a field and the winds blew and we saw a dust tornado. It stayed in one spot as it spun, we nev- er saw it die out. The 57 'Bones Fami- ly' is, or was, still at the water park to cool of f. Hwy. 41, at the Pigeon Creek bridge is still under construction; and the iron bridge wasn't there, unless I missed it- which has happened before. Hwy. 64 from Oakland City junction to Ar thur junction is now paved, and they are painted yellow with white lines on each side. The side streets have a white line to show where to stop. Pike County will soon, after built, have an inflatable water park at the Old Ben Scout Reser ve, which has been pur- chased for this attraction and will add oth- er items in phases. I forgot to tell you all, on Hwy. 61, north of Pike Central junction, you will see the beginning of a water tower being built in a field on 'half mile hill.' The construction has been in progress for a few months now. Ted and Terri Ann are both doing fine, as they are in a Loogootee nursing home to get their strength built back up. Their neighbors are the greatest and that continues to be the whole town. We got to have our pancake Sunday, as we waited for Laura to get out of church. Laura took Norm to Princeton to buy him his Father's Day gift, a belt, and he is using it before Sunday. This is be- cause the other belt has star ted to break where the belt holes are located. 'Ava's' air conditioner is cold enough that we have to tur n the fan down to almost low, so we don't freeze. Feels good on the humid days. Norm has worked on the ditch in the woods for some time now, and to see a dr y ditch is a welcome sight to see. When it did rain, the water flowed easily without any holdups. There is an old route we would to take, before the interstate was being built, and we decided to take that route again. There was a few changes, but the drive was relaxing and lots more to see in smaller towns. You do have to drive behind bigger equipment for miles, but that's not a problem. I hope all the fathers had a great day and your gifts were what was needed. It's time to dim the lights for this week, but continue to keep an eye on family and friends; especially in the upcoming heat and humidity. Slow down and enjoy the beauty all around you. Watch out for children playing outside. Always smile, wave and say "hi" to ever yone you see this week.
