Mark Wade, Deacon Christian 1ST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 (Office) 941-730-6324 (Dennis Randall) As a minister, constantly reading and studying, and do- ing research concerning Bibli- cal historicity, I've always ad- mired the heart and writings of C.S. Lewis. Lewis had come to faith through many struggles in- cluding attempting to dis- prove the authenticity of Jesus Christ. The more he studied, the more he searched, the more he came to believe that Jesus of Nazareth was in fact, the Son of God. It was out of his faith and ultimate commit- ment to Jesus that influenced most of his writings. Here is one of his quotes, bold, pierc- ing and to the point. "You must make your choice: either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." Provocative to say the least. Whether or not you believe in Jesus, Lewis sets forth a pow- erful apologetic for his belief, for mine, and for yours if you will open your heart and mind. Join us this Sunday at 9:30 for Bible Study, and 10:30 for worship. Our special guest singer for Sunday will be Jayla Harris. It will be a great day to honor our Fathers! Hunger: "It's a great pity that things weren't so arranged that an empty head, like an empty stomach, wouldn't let its own- er rest until he had put some- thing in it." Jesus said, "Blessed are they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled" (Matthew 5:6). Because He lives. Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build an- other, not made with hands.'" Yet even then their testimony did not agree. Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" But Je- sus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Bless- ed One?" "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we need any more witnesses?" he asked. "You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" They all condemned him as worthy of death. (Mark 14:57-64). Joe Henson, Pastor Matt Haycraft, Reporter JESUS CHRIST OUR FIRM FOUNDATION 1415 N. I was inspired by the Holy Spirit to share it with our readers. There is a place, I've been told, beyond an open gate, all have been invited, where friends and loved ones wait. It holds eternal promise , of everlasting peace, no pain or sorrow ever comes and teardrops there have ceased. Abundant life is evi- dent, constant fresh and new, a garden of provision, with eternity in view. The promise is awaiting, a place we can abide, fulfilled for all who answer, the call to come inside. Victor y in the Guise of De- feat: Our Lord Himself, St. Peter and St. Paul appeared to have been defeated"—De Tour vi- lle. It is often difficult to tell in a given instance whether we have been defeated or are victorious in a conflict. Some- times what looks like a defeat will be seen later to have been a positive victor y. When Joseph was sold into slaver y, the end appeared to have come for the young dreamer. Years later when the deep ways of God had come to light he could say to his now repentant brethren, "Ye thought evil against me, but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive." Jo- seph's humiliating defeat had turned into personal victor y for him and preser vation for his entire family. We cannot always be sure at the time just who is winning unless we keep our hearts ver y pure and our minds cool and God-pos- sessed—A.W. Tozer.
