Gibson County Visitors and Tourism considered also fund- ing marketing for the South- ern Indiana Car Show; mem- bers tabled the request to get more information on how they would use the funds. GCVT approves $5k to market Community Pride projects By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com Fort Branch Communi- ty Pride will receive $5,000 from Gibson County Visitors and Tourism to market the Vine Street Maker's Market, the Sinister Cellar Hallow- een Haunt and zombie run, Christmas at the fire depart- ment and other Halloween in Fort Branch and other events. Additional Pride projects have been purchasing flow- er pots for downtown, mulch- ing and edging, and buying a trashcan for uptown. "The town doesn't have money to put towards beau- tifying," FBCP member Can- dice Yancey told the board. GCV T had already budget- ed $5,000 for the organiza- tion this year should they ask, which they then approved. JH Rudolph picks up county's summer paving By Janice Barniak SG Star-Times Editor editor@sgstartimes.com Gibson County accepted low-bidder JH Rudolph as the contractor on two county pav- ing projects set for this sum- mer. Rudolph came in at $1.5 million on a Community Crossings grant project— $1 million of that amount will be covered by state funds with the remaining $514,100 in local match. On other local projects that are outside the grant, the county agreed to anoth- er $1.07 million in road work. The bids fall within what the highway department budget- ed this year County Engineer Matt Holden told commission- ers, adding no additional ap- propriations were needed as the bids came in lower than he expected. "You keep paying for your- self every year," said Commis- sioner Warren Fleetwood. Fundraiser for 'Smokin' Hot' Becca Ott brings community together Local "Smokin' Hot' Becca (Harris) Ott met with friends freshly out of rehab Sunday, and said she was glad to be out. Ott was diagnosed with cancer last December, and has done chemo and radiation. She went into the hospital with complications April 15, and into rehab this May. Friends, (some pictured top right,) organized a fundraiser with cornhole, golf, a Chinese Auction, food and more at the Fort Branch gym. Ott said she was too overwhelmed for words. "This is a lot. There are so many people I can't even recognize, and they did it on their own."
