Lady Titans enter Sectionals with a 26-4 record By Andy Heuring South Gibson Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern just com- pleted with their regular sea- son, winning their 20th con- secutive game and finishing with a 26 -4 record. "That is just not easy to do," said Lady Titan Coach Gary May. " "It is incredible to look back and see all the games we could have lost and we didn't. Our biggest challenged going for- ward is to realize we can loose each game and to respect our opponent, and realize that the one game we are playing is the most important thing we have to deal with. Hopefully we will do that." Gibson Southern has re- turned to the 3A sectional, af- ter spending the last six years playing in the 4A ranks. They were set to host the section- al. However a strong storm blew through the area caus- ing serious damage to Gib- son Southern's softball com- plex. Including bending over the backstop, throwing two sets of bleachers onto the field and blowing down the left field fence among other things. "I feel bad for our seniors. They didn't realize last week they had played their last home game," said May. The sectional has been moved to Washington. Vincennes Lincoln (6 -16) and Princeton (5 -15) will play each other Monday night at 6 p.m. Gibson Southern will play the winner of that game in Tuesday's second game, scheduled for a 7 p.m. CST start time. It will follow the Washington (1-18)/Pike Cen- tral (15 -6) game, set for 5 p.m. CDT. The winners of Tuesday's games are scheduled to play on Thursday at 6 p.m. CST. Gibson Southern has been red hot the last 20 games. Their last loss of a 9 -3 to North Posey was on a cold windy morning, April 7. Breena Blume is leading the Titans offensively with .633 batting average, 12 home runs and 48 RBIs and a team high 19 doubles. Lauryn Adamson, .507, and Sydney Long, .500, are also batting over 500. Long has a school record of 38 stolen bases so far, and has scored 44 runs, and is third in doubles with 11. Olivia Money is batting .419 with 44 RBIs, six home runs and 12 doubles. "Alexis (Tucker) and Callie (Dickerson)are pitching very well. Our team defense is get- ting better all the time. We ar- en't just making routine plays. We are stealing outs from the other team, not just one per- son, it is everyone of them," said Coach May.
