The Titan offense ran up 564 yards of offense, scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter and three in the second, on their way to a 55 -7 win over Princeton. The win clinched at least a tie for the PAC title for the Titans in the big school division. "We always want to win champion- ships and the conference is the first one you can win in the season. We want to come out and play well on Fri- day and win one by ourselves," said Titan Coach Nick Hart of being able to clinch the PAC title. Titan quarterback Brady Allen had his typical night, completing 15 of 17 passes for 306 yards and six touchdowns. He ran for another for a total of seven touchdowns in the first half. Meanwhile, the varsity de- fense pitched another shutout. Allen's typical night moved him to number eight on the Indiana all-time career passing list, with 9,598 yards. "I think having seven touchdowns in the first half is pretty impressive. His six passing touchdowns in the first half went to six different receiv- ers. It isn't easy to throw six touch- downs in a half, let alone to do it with six different receivers," said Titan Coach Nick Hart. The defense gave up only three first downs in the first half and the Titans' offense did not punt. It is the fifth consecutive game against a PAC opponent they have not punted. The Titan offense ran 34 plays, picking up 22 first downs and scor- ing eight touchdowns. So they on- ly had four plays that were neither a touchdown nor a first down. Princeton's first two possession re- sulted in a combined negative nine yards. On their first offensive play of the game, Titan defender Levi Dick- erson sacked Princeton quarterback Christian Schaefer for a 10 -yard loss. Facing fourth and 20, the Tigers' punt went off the side of the punt- er's foot, sailing out-of-bounds for a zero-yard net punt. Gibson Southern took over on Princeton's 25 and Allen immediate- ly hit his favorite target, Rory Helts- ley, for a 13-yard gain. Penalties on consecutive downs left the Titans looking at first and 17. It didn't matter. Allen hit Heltsley for a four-yard gain. Then on third and 13, with Princeton's defense focusing on three receivers, Allen rolled out of the backfield and strolled into the left side of the endzone untouched at 10 :53. The Titans missed the PAT, but led 6 -0. Another three and out by Princ- eton gave the Titans the ball at the Princeton 43-yard line. A fter a Princeton penalty, Gib- son Southern was moved up to the 38 -yard line. Allen hit Brayden Malone in stride, dropping the ball over his shoulder near the goal line for the Titans' second touchdown with 8:18 still left in the first quarter. On their third offensive series of the game, Princeton got their first, first down, when Kaleb Ice made a Titan tackler miss as he turned the corner. He then raced 34 yards down field to the Titan 41. The drive end- ed when Princeton decided to go for it on fourth and three at the 34-yard line. Titan Logan Maurer tackled Schaefer a yard short and Gibson Southern took over on downs. Gibson Southern covered the 68 yards in five plays. Allen hit Brayden Malone for a 10 -yard gain, Kaden Hurless for 23 yards and then Sean Delong on consecutive plays for 20 and 13 yards to score. Adrean Lukeman ran it into the endzone on the two-point conver- sion and the Titans led 20 -0 at the 4:49 mark of the first quarter. A quick three and out by Prince- ton started with Tye Whitledge drop- ping Ice for a two-yard loss. Gibson Southern took over at the Tiger 45 -yard line. DeLong picked up two yards before a snap was dropped by Allen, leading to a six-yard loss. Al- len made up for it on the next play when he threw a 47-yard touchdown to Heltsley for a 27-0 lead with 2:17 left in the first quarter. Whitledge had another tackle for loss. This time on third down to force a three and out. "Tye played well up front for us. He has gotten better as the year has gone on and it is starting to show," said Coach Hart. Gibson took over on their 34. It only took four plays for them to cov- er the 66 yards for their fifth touch- down. Allen opened the drive by hit- ting O'Neal for 11 yards, DeLong ran for 13 yards, then Adrean Lukeman ran for 30 to set up a seven-yard pass from Allen to Peyton Rogers for his first score of the year. It put the Ti- tans up 35 -0. Gibson Southern's sixth score came after taking over the ball on their 16. DeLong ripped off a 22-yard run, followed by a 16 -yard pass to Malone and a nine-yard run by DeLong. The Allen hit Kayden Hurless for a 45 -yard touchdown at the 7:35 mark of the second quarter. The last score of the first half was a 46 -yard pass to Isaac O'Neal with 4:00 to go. Gibson Southern got the ball back with 3:01 left in the half, after a 28 -yard run by DeLong, who ran for 80 yards on eight carries. The Titans took a knee two plays in a row to run out the half. Gibson Southern's starters did not return and the clock ran continuous- ly in the second half. The reserves moved the ball well against the Tigers' starting quarter- back. Tanner Boyd was the Titans' leading rusher with 105 yards on on- ly three carries. He ran for 19 and 24 yards before Devan Roberts took it into the endzone for a 54-0 lead. It was Roberts' fifth touchdown of the year. Baker Calvert hit the PAT to make it 55. Boyd's biggest run, a 62-yarder, was for naught. He was tackled from inside the five and fumbled, with Princeton recovering, or the Titans would have topped 60 points for the fourth time this season. The win put Gibson Southern at 7- 1 and 5 -0 in the conference. Mt. Ver- non is 5 -1 in the conference. A win Friday against Boonville will clinch the PAC title. Titans dominate Pioneers to win PAC championship By Andy Heuring South Gibson Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Neither rain, nor storm, nor yet an- other PAC opponent have been able to slow down the Titan football team. In a driving rain storm, the Titans rolled over Boonville 37-6. The win made Gibson Southern Pocket Ath- letic Conference Big School Division champions for the second year in a row. This year, they did it in dominat- ing fashion. The 37-6 win over Boon- ville was the closest margin of victo- ry this year against a PAC team. The Titans' offense did not punt this sea- son to a PAC team. They only had two possessions not end in a touch- down. At the peak of the storm, they turned the ball over on downs deep in Boonville territory while leading 37-0. The other was a fumble against Heritage Hills. Allen was 12 of 16 for 188 yards and two touchdowns, while the Ti- tans were running for 237 yards. In all, they ran up 425 yards of offense, while holding Boonville to 145 for the game and 74 against the starters in the first half. Allen has thrown for 35 touchdowns without an interception this season. Friday, Rory Heltsley was again his favorite target, catching seven passes for 145 yards and two touch- downs. Gibson Southern's first score was a six-yard pass from Allen to Helts- ley, just 1:41 into the game, despite the Titans kicking off to Boonville to start the game. It was set up by the Titan defense stuffing Boonville for zero yards on their first offense series. A short punt into a strong wind gave the Titans the ball at the Boonville 29. Allen hit Heltsley for a 13-yard gain and a face mask penalty moved them to the six. Three plays later, Heltsley scored. Boonville took over and a pass in- terference call against the Titan de- fense helped Boonville. A pass of eight yards and a five-yard run by the quarterback got the Pioneers to Titan 49 -yard line. They only stayed in Titan territory one play. Adrean Lukeman dropped Pioneer running back Reece Wilder for a two-yard loss. Boonville was forced to punt facing fourth and 12. Gibson Southern took over at the 36 -yard line. It took only two plays for the Titans to cover the 64 yards. Allen hit Helts- ley with an over-the-shoulder bomb and he fell into the endzone, but was ruled down at the one. Lukeman took it in from there. A fter missing the PAT on the opening touchdown, Gibson South- ern went for two. Lukeman powered it into endzone to make it 14-0. Boonville opened their next series with an eight-yard run on first down. The Titan defense then stopped the Pioneers on consecutive downs to force a punt. A fter two scores through the air, Gibson Southern stuck to the game on their third series. Tailback Se- an DeLong ran it three consecutive plays for five, nine and four yards. Lukeman went four yards before Levi Dickerson pounded his way for a 25 -yard touchdown. Lukeman again made his way to the endzone on a two-point conver- sion and the Titans led 22-0 with 2:08 left in the first quarter. Despite gaining a first down on an eight-yard pass and five-yard face mask penalty, the Pioneers ended up with one net yard on the series as a fumble cost them three yards and then Titan Ben Luttrell sacked Clay Conner for a 10 -yard loss. Gibson Southern took over on Boonville's 41-yard line. A 28 -yard pass to Heltsley gave the Titans a first down at the 13. Allen rolled out of the backfield to his left and went in for a score, but it was called back for a holding penalty and dead ball foul. They backed up the Titans to the 35 -yard line, leaving them facing first and 32. It didn't matter. Lukeman ran for 10 and Allen went for 13. Allen then hit Heltsley for his second touchdown of the night and Lukeman then scored his third two- point conversion, and Gibson South- ern led 30 -0. They added a fifth touchdown for good measure with 5:58 left in the half. This one started and ended with DeLong. A fter a block in the back on first down, Gibson Southern was backed up to first and 20. A short pass to Delong preceded an 11-yard- er to Heltsley, followed by a 22-yard- er to Kaden Hurless and a 14-yard- er to Heltsley, making it first and 10 at the 12. DeLong then took it in for his first score of the night and a 37-0 lead. Gibson Southern's starters stayed on the sidelines in the second half. Boonville scored with 6:40 left in the game on an 84-yard run by Wilder. The Titans reserves, led by quar- terback Tanner Boyd and Devan Rob- erts, put together a nice drive that stalled at the one-yard line. Boyd was the Titan's leading rusher with 53 yards on seven carries. Roberts was the Titan's second leading rush- er with 49 yards on 10 carries. Most of their yards were against Boon- ville's defensive starters. The win pushed Gibson South- ern's record to 8 -1 and 6 -0 in the PAC. Allen has thrown for 2,311 yards and 35 touchdowns this season. His 188 yards gives Allen a career total of 9,786, which keeps him in 8th place on the all-time list. He is just 57 yards behind Carson Blair, of Southwood, from the Class of 2017. 55 7 - GIBSON SOUTHERN PRINCETON COMMUNITY OCT. 8, 2021 GAME 8 37 6 - GIBSON SOUTHERN PAC CHAMPIONSHIP BOONVILLE OCT. 15, 2021 GAME 9 Brayden Malone looks a pass into his hands on his way to the endzone. It was a 38-yard bomb Malone caught for a touchdown in the Titans' 55-7 win. Aiden Barrett (40) and Levi Dickerson (43) stop Boonville quarterback Clay Conner for no gain.
