Annual Angel Tree at VFW Post #2714 Come to VFW Post #2714 to pick an angel off the tree to sponsor one of the children in our county this Christ- mas. THIS WEEK Christmas tree lighting Dec. 2 Oakland City University will present a community Christmas tree lighting with food trucks, coffee, hot choc- olate, Christmas carolers, fire pits and s'mores beginning at 5 p.m., with the tree lighting set for 6 p.m. Dec. 2 on Lu- cretia Street. Polar Express chugs in Dec. 4 Broadway Players and the Princeton Theatre will host a breakfast and screening of "Polar Express," with brunch beginning at 9 a.m. with the movie included for $15 and the movie starting at 10 a.m., with movie-only tickets avail- able for $5. Parade planned Princeton's Snowflake Christmas Parade is set for 5 p.m. Dec. 4 with a theme of "Have an Essential Christmas" and the goal of honoring essential workers. Santa pictures at IMM The Indiana Military Museum, 715 S. 6th St., Vin- cennes, will be hosting its annual pictures with Santa uti- lizing a military-themed background. This will occur on Dec. 4, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. EST. Sign up will start at 1:30 p.m. inside the Museum Annex. There will be free admis- sion to the annex for pictures. The pictures are taken by Bartholomew Photography and the cost is $5 per picture. Call the IMM at 812-882-1941 with questions. Family fun Christmas party VFW Auxiliary Post #2714, Fort Branch will be host- ing a Community Ugly Sweater Christmas Party on Dec. 4, from 5 to 11 p.m. There will be activities, crafts and snacks for the kids, as well as a visit from Santa from 5 to 7 p.m. The kitchen will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Band will be playing from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. This event is free to the community, but we ask that you bring an unwrapped toy for Angel Tree kids. Low-income clinic Dec. 4 Gibson County Animal Services and Princeton Veter- inary Hospital will host a one-year rabies annual boost- er and wellness check for $20, cash only, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 4 for Gibson County residents only, aimed to help low-income, fixed-income and senior residents. Pre-regis- tration is required; call Gibson County Animal Services at 812-386 -8079 at Princeton Veterinary Hospital. Haubstadt Holiday Expo set for Dec. 4 Shop local at the Haubstadt Holiday Expo on Dec 4 at the Old Gym in Haubstadt 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lots of local crafters and vendors are ready to help. Free admission. There will be a food truck for lunch, too. Archery tournament planned An 18 -meter, 3-arrow and 10 -end archery tournament will be open to all with flights at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Dec. 4 at Red Dawn Armory. Registration is $15, but spectat- ing is free. Republicans meet Saturday Gibson County Republicans will meet at 9 a.m. Dec. 4 to caucus in a Union Twp. Trustee to replace Stacy DeHart, who will resign as of the end of this year. GGH hosts Reindeer Run Join Deaconess Gibson for the fifth Gibson General Health Foundation Reindeer Run. Get in the Christmas spirit with this festive 5K or one-mile run/walk. This event welcomes participants of all ability levels– from casual walkers to elite runners. Chip timing is avail- able for runners, with awards given for the top three fin- ishers in each age group. The Kids Elf Run is at 8:45 a.m. and a 5K/one-mile Run/Walk begins at 9 a.m. Registration is online or at the event. Adults are $25, and children ages 12 and under are free. Free self-defense class planned Red Dawn Armory will host a free women's self-defense seminar from 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 5, taught by IMA Acad- emy. Zeta Gamma Chapter December Social Zeta Gamma Chapter members will be having their De- cember social and meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Branch Park. (USPS 205-620) obituaries ELIZABETH ALICE (FERRY) ROSTRON Elizabeth Alice (Ferry) Rostron, 84, of Haubstadt, passed away at Deaconess Gateway Hospital on Nov. 24, 2021. She was born to the late Francis and Dorothy (Deal) Ferry on July 18, 1937, in Ow- ensville. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Branch. She graduated from Fort Branch High School in 1955 and mar- ried her other half, Alva J. Ros- tron, on July 23, 1955. She at- tended Vincennes University and studied psychology. She retired from the South Gib- son School Corporation after 30 years of being a teacher's aide. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for everyone in her family and those in need. She also enjoyed most any book that was handed to her. Her dogs, Oscar and Toby, would usually be found lying in her lap while she was crocheting or reading. She is survived by her lov- ing husband of 66 years, Al- va J. Rostron, of Haubstadt; seven children, Juanita Ha- worth, of Owensville, Bruce (Marilee) Rostron, of Haub- stadt, Elizabeth ( John) Mont- gomery, of Spurgeon, Robert (Lisa) Rostron, of Spurgeon, Peggy (Michael) Dougan, of Princeton, Reba (Randy) Richardson, of Owensville, and Janet (Kenneth) Bueh- ner, of Fort Branch; siblings, Cyetta Green, Naomi Lloyd, Margaret Boyer, John and Vada Ferry, and Lavada and Gary Menke; brother-in-law, Davey Wright; 18 grandchil- dren, Bryan and Michael Ha- worth, Lynn Beckett and An- drew Rostron, John Montgom- ery, Jr. and Rebecca Cannon, Keena Martin and Sharon Myers, Shelby Sparacino, Ra- chel Slunder, Stephanie Ho- gan and Ally Keehn, Chris and Tom Richardson, Sarah Powell, Laura Gordon, LoVe- ta Stuckey and Robert Stuck- ey; 34 great grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born to the late Hen- ry and Alberta (Sanders) Gib- son on Oct. 8, 1935, in Hazle- ton. He was a graduate of Fort Branch High School. He served in the U.S. Army af- ter the Korean War. He re- tired from Whirlpool after many years of service as a union steward and assembly line operator. He was a mem- ber of the Lion's Club in Ow- ensville and a former volun- teer firefighter for the town of Owensville. He is survived by his chil- dren, Thomas Gibson, of In- dianapolis, Tim Gibson, of Dunnellon, Fla. and Don- na (Tom) Dunlap, of Haub- stadt; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Campbell) Gibson; daughter, Debra Gibson; and siblings, Tom Gibson, Bob Gibson, Edna Lewis, Martha Robb and Mandy Gibson. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, at Maumee Cemetery in Johnson, with Pastor Bart Wagner officiating.
