"Don't sin by letting anger gain control over you" (Psalm 4:4). What you do with anger? Whether you manage it or whether you give into it deter- mines how effective you can be in finding your life's pur- pose. Becoming angry when life is not fair or when people hurt you is natural, but you need to handle it properly. Acknowledge your anger without letting it control you. In that manner, anger can be- come an agent for change. The key is to confront your anger and move on. Direct your an- ger at the injustice and make a positive difference. You will gain insight into your purpose as you control your impulses, learn the lessons that God intends, and practice God's grace. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be appreciated and I'm sure you will feel the bless- ing of God. May God bless each and everyone. Mark Wade, Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Sunday morning worship service at 10 :30 a.m. Losing Hope The times in which we live can sometimes challenge our faith at the deepest level. Nat- ural disasters, the pandemic, loss of loved ones and a myr- iad of other calamities can shake our hopefulness into hopelessness. The Bible, in both the Old and New Testa- ments, gives us many exam- ples of people like us; People who faced tragedies and loss- es beyond imagination, yet who maintained a course of hope in the eternal God who strengthens, comforts and re- news hope in the midst of life's greatest crisis. There is an old hymn sel- dom sung in churches today that is a welcome reminder. The song states, "My hope is built on nothing less, than Je- sus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Je- sus name. On Christ, the Sol- id Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand. The Psalmist declared in Psalm 25:5, Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Worship with us where you'll always find a warm wel- come. You are invited to worship, fellowship and study with us. Take Time We have just experienced another time change. The following are some thoughts about time. "Take time to live, that's what time is for. Take time to work, it's the price of success. Take time to play, it's the fountain of wisdom. Take time to be friendly, it's the road to happiness. Take time to laugh, it's music to the soul. Take time to be courteous, it's the mark of a gentleman. I would add, Take time to wor- ship, it's a way to draw clos- er to the God of heaven and earth." Passage to Ponder "Only [be sure to] lead your lives in a manner [that will be] worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I do come and see you or remain absent, I will hear about you that you are standing firm in one spirit [and one purpose], with one mind striving side by side [as if in combat] for the faith of the gospel. And in no way be alarmed or intimidat- ed [in anything] by your op- ponents, for such [constancy and fearlessness on your part] is a [clear] sign [a proof and a seal] for them of [their im- pending] destruction, but [a clear sign] for you of deliver- ance and salvation, and that too, from God. For you have been granted [the privilege] for Christ's sake, not only to believe and confidently trust in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, [and so you are] ex- periencing the same [kind of] conflict which you saw me en- dure, and which you hear to be mine now" (Philippians 1:27- 30, AMP). It is Finished This was not the desperate cry of a helpless martyr; it was not an expression of satisfac- tion that the termination of His suffering was now reached; it was not the last gasp of a worn out life. No, rather was it the declaration on the part of the Divine Redeemer that for all that which He came from Heaven to Earth to do was now done; that all that was need- ed to reveal the full character of God had now been accom- plished; that all that was re- quired by law before sinners could be saved had now been preformed; that the flail price of our redemption was now paid in full (Christian.com). When Jesus said it is fin- ished he meant it. This is why I believe in faith plus nothing. If we add old testament laws and works to God's salvation, we are saying Jesus didn't finish what he came here to do. This doesn't mean we shouldn't obey his Ten Commandments and we do not want to do good works, this simply means it is finished by our Lord Jesus Christ. When we commit our lives to Jesus, the Holy Spirit helps us do these things naturally, but we won't lose our salvation if we don't. Once we are truly saved our name is written in the book of life. Even if we by chance stumble, He is always there to take us back. "He will not leave you nor forsake you" (Deut. 31:6). "These seven words con- tain the secret of the pover- ty and powerlessness of the average Christian, of the av- erage minister, and of the av- erage church. 'Why is it,' ma- ny a Christian is asking 'that I make such poor progress in my Christian life? Why do I have so little victory over sin? Why do I win so few souls to Christ? Why do I grow so slow- ly into the likeness of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? ' And God answers in the words of our text 'Neglect of prayer. You have not, because you ask not'"—R.A. Torrey.
