The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, June 23, 2021 B-5 Methodist Pentecostal Nazarene Presbyterian Wesleyan MINUTES Continued from page 3 of Israel knew why God had al- lowed this to happen. He had warned them, "…if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God…a nation of fierce coun- tenance…shall besiege th- ee…until thy high and fenced walls come down…" (Deut. 28:15,50,52). So God's people knew that, if they continued in sin, the stron- gest of walls could not protect them. But they also knew that if they hearkened unto the voice of the Lord, He would protect them. And now that God had al- lowed them to return to the land after their captivity in Babylon, hearkening to the voice of the Lord included building this al- tar so that they could keep the Law by observing the feast of tabernacles with a burnt offer- ing (Ezra 3:4 cf. Lev. 23:34-36). In the coming kingdom of heaven on earth, when God's people will be filled with the Spirit and caused to hearken to His voice (Ezek. 36:27), God has promised them that He will be "a wall of fire round about" them (Zech. 2:5). In that day, "salvation will God appoint for walls and bulwarks" (Isa. 26:1). That's part of what will make it heaven on earth! But here we have a dispen- sational difference. Your salva- tion is no defense against earth- ly enemies. You are not in the kingdom of heaven on earth, and you are not under the Law that promised Israel that God would protect them if they were good. As a responsible member of the Body of Christ, you need to take whatever precautions necessary to protect yourself from wicked men. We once knew a teenage girl who would go out jogging at night, assuring her mother that "the Lord will protect me." She had obviously been listen- ing to preachers who had ap- plied the promises of the Law or the promises of the kingdom to us. While what she said sounds very spiritual, please don't fol- low her example. This is one area where a failure to rightly divide the Word of truth could cost you your life. That rest is the source of our strength for a consistent and unfalter- ing walk in the world. Lunch and an afternoon full of fun Bible lessons, crafts games, music and more are in- cluded. It is important to dress in clothes that can get wet, be- cause the games will involve water! We are returning to many of our regular activities. We cur- rently meet in person for wor- ship service at 10 :30 a.m. on Sunday. The messages are al- so live on Facebook, or you can watch the message later. Sunday school for all ages re- opens at 9:30 a.m. Location of the classes has changed. We will help you get to the proper classroom. We have also started a new Sunday School class called "The Journey." Jodi Correll is teach- ing. This is not an age-based class. It is a discipleship class designed to help people know Scripture better, and become more like Jesus. Youth Group meets at 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is our goal for our youth group to be service ori- ented. The teens will do a work project at someone's house or other ministry, and have a brief devotional. Families are welcome take part in the service project, but the parents are responsible for their children. The nursery will remain closed for now. We don't believe it is a good idea to allow children of different families to play to- gether at this time. If your child needs to be tak- en out of the service, the nurs- ery can always be used as a place to change your child, or as a cry room. We use every other pew, and ask that you stay socially dis- tanced from those in your pew who you did not come with. We make every effort to ster- ilize our facility between ser- vices. There is a basket as you enter the sanctuary for tithes and offerings. You may also give online through petersburgfmc. org. There is a link to our website on our Facebook page also, and we often put announcements and information on both pages. Peace and joy in the Lord. Mrs. Smartt was fumbling in her purse for her offering when a large television remote fell out and clattered into the aisle. The curious usher bent over to re- trieve it for her and whispered, "Do you always carry your T V remote to church? " "No," she replied, "but my husband re- fused to come with me this morning, so I took it and I fig- ured this would keep him busy while I was gone." Why is it important to go to Church? The Bible tells us we need to attend church so we can worship God with other believ- ers and be taught His Word for our spiritual growth. Reason to go to church even when you don't feel like it 1. To hear the preaching of the word. 2. To participate with other believers. 3. To receive encouragement and strength your faith. 4. To exercise your gift. 5. To encourage your pastor. These are only a few of the reasons to attend church. What is your reason?
