Augusta 3rd St. Winslow, IN 47598 MELVIN EDWARD DeJARNET T Melvin Edward DeJarnett, 74, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021, at his home in Pe- tersburg. He was born May 26, 1946, in Petersburg, to Nathan Shoultz and Goldie Jenne. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired as a con- struction foreman with Ru- dolphs. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen (Ashby) DeJarnett; daughter, Lisa De- Jarnett; brother, Gene DeJar- nett; sisters, Faye Smith and Virginia Cockriel; six grand- children; and two great-grand- children. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Har- old (Moe) and Paul DeJarnett, and Frankie Dorf; and a sister, Dorothy Jones. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Walnut Hills Cem- etery in Petersburg, with Pas- tor Ron Ficklin officiating. NORMA AGNES DAVIS Norma Agnes Davis, 87, of Seymour, passed away Mon- day, May 24, 2021, at Colum- bus Regional Hospital in Co- lumbus. She was born October 8, 1933, in Petersburg, to George F. and Delma A. Beard Jerrell. She graduated from Peters- burg High School, Class of 1951. She married Luther E. Davis on May 5, 1951, in Pe- tersburg and he preceded her in death on October 16, 1984. She worked for Excello Shirts from 1964 to 1974. She was a member of the Daugh- ters of the American Revolu- tion, St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where she served on the board and was on the board of the Seymour Commu- nity Health. She was a foster parent from 1990 until pres- ent, caring for over 200 chil- dren. She was an expert seam- stress and enjoyed quilting, reading and word search puz- zles, but most of all she loved being with her family. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cheryl (Edward) Tilford, of Paris Crossing, Reita (Lar- ry) Capes, of Hayden, and Lo- ri (Ronnie) Allman, of Brown- stown; grandchildren, Josh- ua Tilford, Anthony Tilford, Heather (Chayce) Campbell, Fay Tilford, Winter Tilford, Stephanie (Randy) Apple- gate, Deidre (Ryan) Marling, Clayton Capes, Kara Winning- ham, Dustin ( Jenna) Allman and Cody ( Jenci) Allman; and great-grandchildren, Noah Tilford, Marissa Tilford, Ma- son Campbell, Brantley Camp- bell, Amiela Campbell, Daw- son Creech, Mikayla Apple- gate, Ethan Applegate, Lydia Applegate, Lance Bailey, Zoe Bailey, Hannah Bailey, Hunter Bailey, Danica Marling, Harlie Winningham, Corie Winning- ham, Ashtyn Allman, Khloe Crane, Macie Crane and Jax- ton Allman. She worked at Voyles IGA in Petersburg for many years. She is survived by her hus- band, Gaylord Ashcraft; son, Maurice ( Judy) Beck, of Pe- tersburg; two grandsons, Dave and Brent Beck; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Hazel Kolb and Barbara Fowl- er. A graveside service was at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021, at Williams Cemetery in Bow- man. Carmel, Ill., passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at IU Health West Hospital in Avon. He was born January 9, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Edward Hamilton and Bet- ty (Speakman) Hughes. He was a member of UMWA Local 5179 for 50 years, retir- ing from the Ziesler Mine. He was an oil field worker for years, and an avid fisher- man, hunter and mushroom hunter. He loved taking road trips, going where he wanted to go, especially visiting fami- ly. He was past president of the Moose Lodge in Mt. Carmel. Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Ser- ena ( Jeff ) Gray, of Oakland City, Eddie (Melissa) Hughes, of Francisco, and Patricia Bax- ley, of Patton, Ill.; stepdaugh- ter, Tammy Pargin, of Pearl, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren who meant the world to him. They called him Papaw, Pops and Poppy. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harold Dean Hughes; siblings, Ella- mae, Coralee, Georgia, Alvin, Maycel, James, Lucille and Willard; two half-brothers; and one half-sister. LOIS "JEAN" MEYER Lois "Jean" Meyer, 87, of Arthur, passed away May 23, 2021, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jas- per. She was born on May 29, 1933, in Arthur, the second of five daughters. She remained a proud and lifelong resident of Arthur. She enjoyed camping, sewing, crosswords, and was a mem- ber of Arthur General Bap- tist Church. She never met a stranger. She is survived by sis- ters, Donna Poehlein, of Arthur, and Rosalee Mc- Queen-Wright, of Eddyville, Ky.; son, Larry (Kay) Meyer, of Winslow; daughter-in-law, Roberta Meyer, of Stendal; two grandsons; two grand- daughters; four great-grand- sons; three great-granddaugh- ters; lifelong friend, Dot- tie Drew, of Petersburg; and many other beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert "Ab" Meyer; parents, Louis and Ollie( Bruce) Sharp, of Ar- thur; three infant brothers; sisters, Beulah Stucy, of Ari- zona, and Carolyn Rhodes, of Linton; and sons, Mike Mey- er, of Stendal, and Eric Mey- er, of Winslow. Family and friends may send messages of comfort to www. lambbasham.com. PASTOR FORD D. BOND Columnist and Pastor Ford D. Bond, 64, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, May 24, 2021. He was born in Terre Haute on October 16, 1956, to Roy E. Bond and Gertrude F. (Cook- sey) Bond. He graduated from Bra- zil High School in 1975. He earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana State Univer- sity in 1992 and his master's degree in 1994. On March 14, 1992, he married Janis M. (Foote) Bond in Terre Haute. He was ordained by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. He founded Gate- way Tabernacle in 1984. In 1985, he felt called to work with Elder Mitchell Cleatham at Haywood Memorial Church in Greencastle. In 1997, he felt called to pastor in the United Methodist Church. He be- came a local pastor and was first appointed to Nine Mile United Methodist Church in Linton. He served White Riv- er Chapel, New Lebanon, Rose Chapel, Plainville, Prairieton, Coal City, Beech, Shelburn, and Jasonville United Meth- odist Churches. He was also a teacher at Linton Stockton High School from 1992 until 2016. In 2014, he went into full- time ministry and served Am- ity United Methodist Church until his passing. He also authored a weekly column Points to Ponder for The Press-Dispatch and South Gibson Star-Times since 2002. He is survived by his wife, Rev. Janis Bond, of Green- field; daughters, Laurie (Ma- rio) Victoriano and Jessi- ca (Mario) Garcia, both of Washington; stepson, Eric (Li- sa) Pethtel, of Fortville; step- daughters, Michele Pethtel Rhodarmer, of West Colum- bia, S.C., and Susan (Mike) Pritchard, of Elliottsville; brother, David (Bambi) Bond, of Rockville; twin brother, Rev. Curtis (Rev. He enjoyed fishing, camping, go- ing mudding and mushroom hunting. He loved good music and cherished long phone con- versations and photographs. He is survived by his daugh- ters, Mindi (Brad) Morris and Amy Mitchell; sister, Shirley (Brian) Van Meter; brother, James (Lynn) Barrett; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
