Petersburg seniors may be meeting again, so check the place and day to be sure. There were no postcards at Sweets Col- umn, Winslow, IN 47598 Winslow Patoka River dropped its wa- ter level from full to three-quarters full. The White River is high and so is the Ohio River. The Wabash was high last week. Our temps have gone from spring to summer, with the 60s at night and 70s- 80s for daytime highs, with winds rang- ing from 5 -20 mph. The showers we had here weren't that much, close to .10 inches. Windows are open and some stars may have turned on their air conditioner, but the humidity might come next week. The Brood X Cicadas are getting closer to our area as they begin to shed the old shell and turn black with those red beady eyes. I have seen a few shells in the yard, but not the cicadas yet. They have been seen last week in Nashville, Tenn., southern Ken- tucky and the Jasper area. More flowers are in bloom, such as iris- es, tulips, peonies, roses and lots of other spring flowers. The fields are planted, but more fields are seen with the yellow flow- er weed, but it does look good as you see a field of yellow. Lawns look great after the mowing is done each week. The flow- er beds and ground cover have no weeds in them and some have lots of mulch. We saw a rabbit that crossed in front of us in town. I saw my first lightning bug, a small turtle on the road at twin pits, and over in Illinois, a gray fox in the I-64 median, one wild turkey and seven deer in the fields, and a herd of goats that get out in the road every so often. When you walk out to the mailbox and back inside the house, and see a tick on your leg, you know the ticks are going to be a nuisance this year. While I was over to help Mom, I got to hug my nephew, Joshua, who we met at Wal-Mart, then later on Friday, we all got in the van and drove to their favor- ite and famous custard stand, where the green lady liberty stands on the corner holding an ice cream cone. We drove through more of Rend Lake and this time, we drove over the dam. The water was up and lots of fishing boats and speed boats were in several spots on the lake. Jacari has competed in several events, like the long jump, and the 100, 200 and 400 me- ter relays, where he has come in several places for the school team. Saturday morning, Mom was brought to Terri Ann's house, but when we got to Indiana, we all met this time at West Boggs Lake to eat before everything was unloaded. Norm and I left the restaurant after we all ate and talked for awhile. It was a lovely sunny day and on the drive over it was nice to see farmers in the fields and the construction on I-64 and Ind. 41 was pleasant to drive through. On Ind. 50, there was a yellow bi-plane that flew really close to the highway and also low to the field. So, I guess he was practicing his crop dusting maneuvers. The gas pric- es were high in Illinois, ranging from $ 3.17- $ 3.19. In Indiana, at the 40 truck stops, it was $2.99, but far- ther north in Washington, it was $2.89. Then, later in the week, on Wednesday, it was $ 3.09. There were some stations that ran out of gas the week before, but now there is no worry about where to fill up your tank. You might have to pull out more money to do that. It's that time and sit- uation again where the prices on every- thing get higher. We drove through Hornady Park, where it was a happening place. A fam- ily and their children were playing on the swings and monkey bars, and there were two family get-togethers of a birth- day and or graduation. There were also lots of walkers on Pike Ave. On Taco Tuesday, Vernon, Dixie, Norm and I had a great time as we ate tacos and enjoyed the flan with three spoons at the Mexican place in Oakland City. Thursday was our Winslow Lions Club meeting and we all met outside in the fresh air, where we had a great talk and discussion on past events and upcom- ing events. We all heard the great news that Maddie and Scott Arnold had just found out that they will have a little one in about seven more months. Congratu- lations to them. Schools all over the area will soon be ending, with children moving into anoth- er grade or graduating out of high school or college. So, to every student, congrat- ulations and enjoy the summer. Memorial Day is coming on the last Monday of the month, where many fam- ilies will visit their loved ones, and place flowers and a flag for those who have served in many branches of service for our country to remain free. While you are there, think about giving a donation to the cemeteries to help with upkeep. Keep the area nice for you and your loved ones. The lights are about to dim this week, but keep an eye on family and friends. Keep wearing your mask to keep others safe. Slow down and see all the wonders in your neck of the woods. As always, smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see this week. In one SnugSlips ad, a woman stood atop the pointy part of a fire hydrant. Why? Not sure! Was she seriously injured? Dunno! Did I have to have them? Yes! I paid $ 30 on pillowslides.com, choos- ing black, as if this might be more chic. Like, yes, I am wearing pontoon boats, but they are Chanel pontoons. They took weeks to arrive. I almost for- got about them, until a friend posted her yellow Pillow Slides on Instagram, claim- ing I inspired her. Is this how influencing works? We all just buy the same bizarre items and show one another? It is. So, the review. I was disappoint- ed when I put them on. They felt firm- er than the tiny down comforters I had imagined. But as I wore them, I came around. They're light but sturdy, the kind of footwear I could picture my peasant foremothers wearing while boiling groats for stew. They can withstand any liquids. These are the shoes of a changing, resil- ient world. Ballet flats, Oxfords and the like will bounce back somewhat as we return to offices and events, Goldstein said. But I wonder if they will be forever inter- spersed with shoes that say, "Yes, I had insomnia during the pandemic, and my self-control is low, but I am still standing."
