TRAINING Continued from page 1 culum. "As president of the Pike Coun- ty Economic Development Corpo- ration, I am so proud of the work that many have done to establish this partnership with Ivy Tech at the Elmer Buchta Tech Center," said Mark Flint. "To offer classes in Pike County at our new facili- ty, helps establish the longevity of the Tech center, as well as benefit- ing our people in Pike County and surrounding counties. We look for- ward to having many classes there in the near future as well." "Today is the beginning of a new and bright chapter for Pike Coun- ty," said Ashley Willis, executive director of the Tech center. "Pike County Economic Development Corporation's mission is to attract new business and create jobs. To supply the needed and ever-chang- ing jobs for our region, we must have the skilled talent. I am ex- cited for our partnership with Ivy Tech as we develop our workforce engine and offer these opportuni- ties to Pike County and our region. We look forward to working with Ivy Tech." In recent years, Hoosier Ener- gy decommissioned and razed their coal-fired power plant at Pe- tersburg and AES Indiana has an- nounced they are closing one unit this year and anticipate the Peters- burg plant to be closed by 2031. At least three solar farms are actively pursuing projects in Pike County, with Tenaska/Capital Dy- namics announcing their hope to begin construction on a 1,500 to 2,000 -acre unit this fall. Ivy Tech classes at the Center will begin in August. Vidal said they would be seeking which cur- riculum that is needed and sought after in the area. Scholarship op- portunities are available through the charitable giving of Ivy Tech donors. Anyone interested in requesting training that is needed for the ar- ea, or classes that will be available, should contact John Snowden, site director of the Princeton Career and Technology Center, at 812- 385 -8495. Snowden said they ex- pect to offer as many as 36 differ- ent classes this fall in Pike Coun- ty so they can see which courses people are interested in. Then the course range would narrow to the ones being requested in the future. The Center is a business incu- bator and training facility in Pike County, on the I-69 corridor on State Road 67. Opened in March this year, it started about seven years ago and is aimed at creating a place that students can use for prototype development. The announcement came at a news conference on Monday, May 23 at the Center. Ivy Tech Chancellor Daniela Vidal speaks during the announcement of partnership between Ivy Tech and the Elmer Buchta Technology and Entrepreneur Center in Pike County to offer classes at the center beginning in August.
