Poplar Street, Petersburg The other evening I turned on the national news to see what chaos and mayhem was go- ing on in the world. I really wasn't surprised by what I heard! Year after year, the headlines are becoming increasingly more ominous. In the Middle East, Syria is embroiled in a major civil war; Israel is repeatedly threatened with anni- hilation; and ISIS is attempting to build an Is- lamic State where the beheadings of those who reject their ideology is commonplace. Then there's Iran, which is nearing the completion of a nuclear bomb, that will undoubtedly re- sult in the nuclear proliferation of other na- tions in the region. In Europe, many countries are facing fi- One often wonders why most press cover- age on religion is done by non-religious peo- ple. This may be the reason so much we read in secular magazines, social media, and see on T V has little resemblance to what the Bible teaches and Christian leaders believe. Every thinking person has made some kind of a decision about God. Most have wondered if there is an organizing intelligence that cre- ated our universe and made man. Most have looked at the various religions and chosen to believe one. The one thing that has been con- stant throughout history has been man's be- lief in God. Most people believe God plays an important role in their life. It is said that a few unbelievers do most of the religious report- ing in the press. Could this be by evil design? Poll after poll tells us America is a country where people have strong belief in God. Even though a few scientists teach there is no re- al personal God more than 90 % say they have never doubted the exis- tence of God. The over- whelming majority be- lieves in life after death and eight in ten believe God still works miracles. A recent study shows the majority of our col- lege students say they pray. Most Americans say God is important in their lives. The great need among religious people is that their walk should match their talk. Our lifestyle as Christians should reflect honesty, integrity, neighborliness and faithfulness in our daily prayer and Bible reading. The church has a strong obligation to oppose the evil in our culture and teach people to live moral lives and be different from those who reject God. We should oppose the evil of cancel culture. Sadler Hi folks, welcome to another week of the Lowell Thomas family. Hope you all have a re- al un-eventful week. There has not been ma- ny tragic upsets here just a normal old week. Well maybe there was a little bit of trouble this week because as I was mowing and trying to get around some of the places I don't normal- ly mow, when a big piece of rip rat found its way under my mower. It did a number on my deck. I have a welder but as I mentioned before I can't weld very well. So my friend usually comes over to use it for me. We were able to salvage the deck and get the mower cutting well enough to use. Later in the week as I was weed eating in another area where I was far be- hind, I had trouble with my weed eater string head. My yard work is definitely hard on my equipment and you seem to always have some- thing to work on. I'll be glad whenever I catch up and be able to just mow and try to keep our yard clean and green. My friend and I used his trailer to haul off a huge sectional sofa to Velpen disposal. If you need to haul anything away they don't charge an arm and a leg to help you. It's nice to have friends who can and will help each other out as needed. I am very blessed to be friends with a bunch of guys who often pitch in to help one another. Our grandson had his first t-ball game last Monday. It was very entertaining to watch these little guys and gals learn baseball. The grandson batted three times and hit the ball well without the tee. The first time he hit the ball he went after the ball instead of running to first base. The other two times he batted he skipped first and second and just ran to- Upcoming Events Living Faith Church International host movie night this Saturday The Living Faith Church International, 601 S. 9th Street, Petersburg, will be hosting a free community outdoor mov- ie. CHURCH Corner of Center and Sycamore Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; This Wednesday will be our monthly business meeting at 6:30 p.m. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. Much like the Israelites, we often stray from the Lord, placing our trust and expec- tations on false hopes rather than placing our hopes for to- day and the future on Christ. Nevertheless, the Lord is faithful and will not abandon those who truly seek Him. "Those who are wayward in spirit will gain understand- ing; those who complain will accept instruction" (Isaiah 29:24). Dwight Howe, Pastor Karri Brock, Reporter GR ACE G.B. CHURCH 1007 E. Some people think Heav- en will be dull and boring, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Father's house will be a happy home because there will be work to do there. John wrote in Reve- lation 22:3, "His servants shall serve Him." Each one will be given exactly the task that suits his powers, his tastes and his abilities. And the Father's house will be a happy home because friends will be there. Have you ever been to a strange place and had the joy of seeing a familiar face? Not one of us who enters the Father's house will feel lonely or strange, for we who have put our trust in Christ are part of His family, sharing heaven's joys forever with all our brothers and sis- ters in Christ. If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter WINSLOW G.B. CHURCH 600 E. Thought for the week: "I consider that our present suf- ferings are not worth compar- ing with the glory that will be revealed in us" (Roman 8:18). Be in prayer for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders, and always each other. God's blessings on you this week. Try to be kind and show God's love, because everyone is fighting some kind of battle. If you don't have a church home, we invite you to any of Monday, May 31, Memori- al Day.
