Born in Greenville, SC on May 5, 1928, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas William Mathis, Sr. and Mattie Hughes Smith Mathis. In addition to her par- ents, she was predeceased by her husband, Paul E. Szymborski Sr.; sister, Eileen M Armstrong; and her broth- ers, T.W. Mathis, Jr., Sam Milton Mathis, and Andrew Mathis. Mary is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws, Paul Jr. and Jane Szymborski of Shelby and Tom and Patti Szymborski of Durham; two grandchildren; three great grandsons; and her sister- in-laws, Frances Mathis of Liberty SC, Lyda Mathis of Landrum SC. ALFRED ESKRIDGE Mr. Alfred Eskridge, 72, of Shelby, NC passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby. RAY DENNIS COOK Ray Dennis Cook, 77, went to his Heavenly home on February 6, 2021 at Carolina Health and Rehabilitation, Cherryville NC. Born in Cleveland County, on March 7, 1943, he was the son of the late Cleatus and Wilma Cook of Lawndale. Mr. Cook served our coun- try in the US Army during the Vietnam era. In addition to his parents Mr. Cook is preceded in death by his sisters, Maxine Taylor and Ruth Chapman; and brothers-in-law, Parksie Chapman, Carroll Taylor and M.L. Ledford. Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Linda Bradshaw Cook; sisters, Lucille Canipe (Ray), Faye Ledford; and sister-in- law, Norma Brittain (Steve). KAY ALLISON HARDIN Kay Allison Hardin, 76, of Blacksburg, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Cherokee Medical Center. Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Jerry Wayne Hardin Sr. and the daughter of the late Otis M. Allison and Eula Batcheler Allison. Mrs. Hardin is survived by her sons, Jerry Hardin Jr., (Tonya), and Richard Thomas Hardin (Christina), both of Blacksburg; one brother, Ben Allison, one sis- ter, Brenda Parker; and five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Hardin Sr., and her siblings, Wayne Allison, Otis Allison Jr., James Allison, Ola Catherine Martin, Paul Allison, C.A. He leaves to cherish his memory to his two children Lakisha Moore (Sheneen) and Mario Moore (Cherina) both of Shelby, NC; three grandchildren; one great- grandchild; his siblings, Edward Eskridge (Diane), Warren Eskridge, (Cynthia), Margaret Eskridge, Tilda Eskridge, Marcella Eskridge Gingles, Elizabeth Webber (Ronald), Shelia Durham, Bonnie Martin (Eddie), Theresa Eskridge, Yvonne Sweezy and Mary Sweezy Poston (Kenneth); and a special friend, Kim.
