Stam We heartily thank God for every politician, athlete, actor or even criminal who comes to know Christ as Savior. But conversion alone does not qualify one for a place of prominence in Christian service. This, especially in Paul's epistles, is reserved for mature believers, wholly separated to God and established in the truth (See especially II Tim. 2:21). When hearts beat faster because of the pres- ence of some glamorous personality on the Christian platform; when such personalities receive adulation which belongs rather to the Christ who died for them, God is dishonored and displeased. True, the motive in procuring such "crowd-getters" may have been to reach great- er numbers for Christ, just as some of our spir- itual leaders become yoked together with apos- tate unbelievers in evangelistic endeavors in order to reach souls for Christ, but the end does not justify the means. It is never right to Your precious gift from God is no longer a child, but a young adult entering a danger zone. Few parents realize the dangers young people face in college. From liberalism in the classroom to sin in the dorm, it's a danger- ous environment. They may have a desire to change their world, but college often changes them. Hopefully, you have given them a good foundation to be academically and spiritual- ly prepared. Good character will help them to withstand many temptations. They will be exposed to many religions and no religions. Their new friends have come from different cultures and have different val- ues. Help your child to choose a Christian col- lege. More than half of all college students are in- volved in binge drinking at least once a month. Fifty-one percent of the girls will be sexual- ly active. They will have little thought about dis- ease and future memo- ries. These experiences will leave your daughter cynical and disappoint- ed. At times, as she fol- lows the crowd, her very life will be in dan- ger. Hopefully, you have taught her that chastity is a gift from God. They will learn a new vocabulary, but no words will be more important than love, disci- pline, fidelity, faith, chastity, and self-respect. Encourage your child to get involved in one of the many Christian organizations that oper- ate on most University campuses. These wor- Hello folks, another week has passed and another set of ramblings to consider. My life must be calming down because nothing excit- ing or newsworthy comes to mind. Last Monday, my wife and I played duty driv- er as we took both grandkids to the dentist in Jasper for their routine exams. Both of them have pretty good teeth. Willow isn't two years old yet and she really has a set of chompers. The dentist told my wife to help Willow to start brushing her teeth. Wyatt still has one of his front teeth discolored from a tumble he took on the floor awhile back. It doesn't seem to bother him, but you can tell it if you look close enough. I'm glad it is a baby tooth so it will come out one of these days. There was even more duty driving as our daughter-in-law became sick and had to go to the hospital that night. My wife and I had to wait in the car for about five hours because of the COVID danger. I understand the danger, but there should be a better way for people who bring others to the emergency room to pass their time while waiting. I have no answer for them, so I should not complain as they attempt to make it safer for everyone. It is a good rule to follow not to complain unless you have an idea which might help. One of our dogs left quite a mess while we were gone, but again, if you have pets, you should be willing to care for them and under- stand when they have problems holding their business in. Our pets are getting older and Christian CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Assembly of God RIVER OF LIFE 342 E. The baby shower is ideally help- ing expectant mothers, or moth- ers of babies from newborn to two years of age. We're excited about this community outreach event to help people in our com- munity and look forward to see- ing you. Because of the time we need for setup, there will be no Wednesday activities or study this week. We will resume our children's activities and Bible study on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Our Sunday morning series exploring Ecclesiastes contin- ues this week. Last Sunday, we reviewed the fifth chapter per- taining to Solomon's visit to the Temple. Solomon observed in- sincere worship, which result- ed in offering three things we should do to keep our worship to our King Jesus from becom- ing meaningless. First, walk carefully to Him. Leave your worries, fears, etc. at the al- tar and let God take them; just worship Him. Second, talk cautiously to Him. Offer God the praise and worship He de- serves; give Him adoration, honor, and glory. And third, do not make a vow you don't intend to keep. It is often that we find ourselves in a predicament and need help. God is always there to help. But, if we cry out for help and make a promise to God in return, then keep it. These are just a few ways to keep our worship extraordinary. Curt Beadle, Pastor GLEZEN G.B. CHURCH Corner of Center and Sycamore No Sunday school at this time; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; Wednesday Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. If you take twenty con- tainers of different sizes and shapes, and pour water in- to them, the water takes the shape of each container. So it is with God's grace which, when poured into many days, will fill the needs of each day, though they be vastly differ- ent. When we need grace to witness, we will have it. While we live, we will have grace to live, and when it comes time to die, we will have grace by which to die. This is why Christ, who knows the Fa- ther's heart, bids us never to be anxious about tomorrow. "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiv- ing let your requests be made known unto God" (Philippi- ans 4:6). Wednesday evening ser- vice at 6:30 p.m. will resume on January 27, with business meeting. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your understanding" (Prov- erbs 3:5). There will always be secrets and motives of God that lie be- yond our grasp. God knows ev- erything we do not. Only in Heaven will we understand God's ways more fully. As Paul said, "Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I al- so am known" (I Corinthians 13:12). But based upon what we do know about God's character demonstrated supremely in the Cross, we can trust that God is doing what is best for us. God says in His Word, "I know the plans I have for you.. plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" ( Jeremiah 29:11). If at any time you have no church to attend, feel free to join us for services. Your pres- ence will be deeply appreciat- ed and you will leave being blessed. Thought for the week: "Final- ly, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, what- ever things are lovely, whatev- er things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy— meditate on these things" (Phi- lippians 4:8). Be in prayer for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders, and always each other. God's blessings on you this week. Try to be kind and show God's love, because everyone is fighting some kind of battle. If you don't have a church home, we invite you to any of our services. Gary Watson, Pastor Nyles Head, Assoc.
