He was born July 28, 1938, in Pike County, to Walter and Delta ( Willis) Catt. He attended Petersburg High School and graduated in 1956. He graduated from Oak- land City University with a bachelor's degree in 1960. He served in the United States Ar- my during the Vietnam War. He retired after a lifetime of working for the railroad. A fter retirement, he spent a lot of his time volunteering and serving on the board at Somebody's Place in Petersburg. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Catt; daughter, Angie Brawdy; grandchildren, Oliv- ia and Ethan Brawdy; brother, Jack (Nev) Catt; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Richard and Gary Catt. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan- uary 27, 2021, at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg, with Pastor D.J. Bryant officiating. MARY K ATHLEEN COX MICHEL Mary Kathleen Cox Michel, 88, of Hillsboro, Ill., formerly of Gillespie, Ill., died at Hillsboro Rehab and Health Care, Hills- boro, Ill., on Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 6:13 pm. She was born June 19, 1932, in Princeton, to Courtney Wil- lis and Esther Lorene ( Jones) Willis. She was an avid member of the Assembly of God Church. She raised and nurtured four generations. (Selby) Aikman, 79, of Petersburg, passed away on January 19, 2021, at her home. She was born May 9, 1941, in Petersburg, to Howard A. and Inez (Chanley) Selby. She was one of nine children. She graduated from Peters- burg High School in 1959. She attended Beautician Col- lege in Evansville and was li- censed as a beautician in 1960. She married Joe Dan Aik- man on June 19, 1961. She lived her entire life in Petersburg. Enjoying time with family and friends was the center of her life, as a sis- ter, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a wonder- ful cook, and enjoyed hosting family and friends for cook- outs, games, gardening and swimming parties through the years. Her wit and humor always enlivened any conver- sation and kept laughter alive, leaving everyone feeling warm and welcome. In addition to having Max- ine's Beauty Salon in her home, she worked at the fam- ily business, Aikman Heating and Plumbing Sales and Ser- vice, until its closure in 2008. Through the years, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and served as president. She was also a member of wom- en's and couples' bowling leagues. She loved traveling and anything Elvis. She was a member of First Christian Church in Petersburg. She is survived by three chil- dren, Darla (Aikman) Traylor, Carol (Tom) Jolly, of Fishers, and David (Michele) Aikman, of Palatine, Ill.; seven grand- children, Amy ( Josh) Marotti, of Montclair, N.J., Cody Tray- lor, Luke and Alexis Jolly, of Fishers, and Callee, Connor and Sydney Aikman, of Pal- atine, Ill.; three sisters, Pat- ty (Gary) Horrall, of Peters- burg; Marilyn ( Jim) Gryder, of Angola, and Sandy (Brent) Lovell, of Petersburg; sisters- in-law, Roberta (Dr. Ralph) Jacqmain, of Vincennes, and Carolyn Selby, of Owensboro, Ky.; brothers-in-law, Dick As- bell, of Greencastle, and Jim Cox, of Petersburg; and nu- merous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. Preceding her in death were her husband, Joe Dan; sisters, Linda Cox, Annalee Asbell and Ruth (Don) Wyatt; broth- ers, Kenneth and Onal (Sue) Selby; and her parents, How- ard and Inez Selby. Butke, 92, of Stendal, passed away Wednes- day, January 20, 2021, at the Northwood Retirement Com- munity in Jasper. He was born April 15, 1928, to Benjamin and Mary (Eg- bert) Butke in Stendal. He married Eunice A. Mey- er on October 24, 1953, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He had a master's degree in Edu- cation, and worked as a teach- er and elementary school prin- cipal at schools in Hunting- burg and Holland. In 1980, he was named Principal of the Year by the Indiana Associ- ation for Elementary School Principals. He was a member of the Indiana Retired Teach- ers Association, the Kiwan- is Club, St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Stendal, and a vet- eran of the United States Ar- my. He was an avid sports fan, backing the Southridge Raid- ers and Dubois County Bomb- ers. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Butke, of Stendal; one son, Kent (Marcia) Butke, of Huntingburg; two daughters, Amy (Gary) Gonnerman and Beth ( John) Kendall, both of Holland; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sis- ters, Juanita Hagemeyer and Dorothy Cannon; and two brothers, Austin Butke and Gerald Cannon. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan- uary 23, 2021, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Stendal, with Pastor Ed Wicks offici- ating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Condolenc- es may be shared online at www.nassandson.com. RONALD EUGENE RUPPEL Ronald Eugene Ruppel, 77, of Stendal, entered rest on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at his home. He was born May 18, 1943, in Vincennes, to Lawrence and Annis (Carie) Ruppel. He and his wife, Mary Jo, moved to Pike County in 1973 and he started working at Old Ben Coal Company. He also was involved in the building of Big Kate and retired after 34 years as a diesel mechanic and welder. He also had worked for R.H. Corm Trucking, and owned and operated Ruppel Repair, LLC. He was a mem- ber of U.M.W.A. and the local # 5179. He passed his welding and mechanic skills onto his sons and grandsons. He was a very compassionate and gen- tle man, a great role model and problem solver. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jo Ruppel; sons, Rob (Gena Lynn) Rup- pel and Ken (Melanie) Ruppel, of Petersburg, and Jerry Dale Ruppel, of Stendal; a daugh- ter, Margie Ruppel, of Lexing- ton, Ky.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, Mike Ruppel, of Lin- ton; and his sisters, Barbara Lindsay and Pat Elkins, both of Vincennes, and Nancy Car- ter, of Monroe City. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Ruppel, Tom Ruppel and Jim Ruppel; and sisters, Geraldine Westfall and Rose Cardinal. Graveside services were at 1 p.m. EST on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, at the Blackfoot Ceme- tery near Coe, with Rev. Ter- ry Beadles officiating. Wineinger, 84, of Otwell, went to her forever home on January 22, 2021, at Legacy Living in Jasper. She was born September 4, 1936, to George Lester Dunn and Leona ( Johns) Dunn. She married the love of her life, William Boyd Wineinger, on May 6, 1955. She worked as the manager at Jr. Food Mart and Subway in Petersburg for many years, and Home Outfitters in Jasper. She enjoyed working with the public, never met a stranger and had many friends. She found joy riding mo- torcycles, camping and team driving with her husband over the road in their semi. They enjoyed living in Florida during the winters, riding bi- cycles, walking on the beach, picking up shells, and feed- ing birds and squirrels. She took great pride in sharing stories of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with her many friends. She was a lifetime member of the VFW and very proud of her veter- an family. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Boyd Wineinger; son, Calvin (Christy) Wineinger; daugh- ters, Debra Brown and Mar- cia (Keith) Hill; sister, Caro- lyn (Eugene) Hayes; grand- children, Nate and Logan Wineinger, Aric and Abby Bo- ger, Mindy Hill-Keeker, John Hill and Katie Cullen, and Aar- on Standley; 15 great-grand- children; and the nieces, neph- ews and cousins she adored and who adored her. She was born on April 14, 1970, in Washington, to Linda (Peyton) and Brayton Nalker. She graduated from Vin- cennes University with an as- sociate degree and she owned and operated Four Season Landscaping. She loved to watch Purdue basketball and camping, fishing, hunting and anything to do with the out- doors. She is survived by her moth- er, Linda Nalker; son, Colton (Morgan) Brittain, of Peters- burg; and her brother, Chris Nalker. She is survived by three children, Rhonda (Greg) Stidd, of Petersburg, Pamela Lee (her significant other, Jer- ry), of Santa Claus, and Tim- othy Lee (his significant oth- er, Lyona), of Oakland City; three sisters, Imogene Krohn, of Coe, Sharon (Tony) Hayes, of Velpen, and Karen (Steve) Haase, of Otwell; five grand- children; and six great-grand- children. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, who died December 14, 2002; her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
