"I thought we played hard, and we did some really good things on the floor tonight," said PCHS Coach Hunter Elliott after the game, "but North Knox hit some great shots in the second half, and we just did not have an answer for their shooting. "They hit some tough shots in some big situations, and that just killed us. "In simple terms, we just have to get better, but it's real- ly tough on these kids to keep coming so close in game af- ter game and not coming out with a win—We just need to get better, and I think we are each time we play." The loss leaves the Char- gers at 1-10 on the 2020 -21 season, while the victory gives the Warriors a 6 -6 record on the year. Chargers fall to Washington 47-40 By Andy Heuring Pike Central's boys lost a tough fought game against Washington on Saturday night 47-40. The Chargers had trouble keep- ing up early in the game as Washing- ton got off to a hot start behind Joah Horrall and Trey Reed. Reed had nine points and Horrall seven in the first quarter alone. Pike Central coun- tered with four players scoring in the first quarter, including four points by sophomore Kendric Sorgius. Still they trailed 18 -12 after the first peri- od. Reed had a game-high 18 points. "I really thought Kendric played well. He rebounded well and was phys- ical," said Charger Coach Hunter El- liott. Sorgius had eight for the Chargers with eight, while Sean Hanselman led the Chargers with nine points on the night. Three other Chargers had five or more points in the game. Pike Central continued to chip away at Washington's lead in the sec- ond quarter, as senior Ethan Gorby scored all six of his points, helping the Chargers outscore Washington 8 -9. It pulled them to within 26 -21 going in- to the third quarter. "Gorby did some good things. He was penetrating well, and it created things for him and other people," said Elliott. Pike Central continued their push in the third quarter, with Hansel- man driving to the bucket and draw- ing fouls. He was four of four from the line in the third quarter. Peyton How- ald nailed a three-pointer. Sorgius and Julian Gish both scored, helping Pike Central outscore Washington 11-9 in the third. It drew them to 35 -32. Sorgius scored his eighth point to start the fourth quarter and got Pike Central to 35 -34. But they couldn't get over the hump. Their only other points in the fourth quarter were three-point- ers by Hanselman and Quade Morton. Washington got five points. Z. Gray and they hit three of their four free- throws to hold off the Chargers by sev- en points. "I'm proud of the effort and fight. But I'm ready for us to take that next step. We have had a lot of consolation, we played hard and or we played well, but we need to finish and get the win. It was good we are in the game with them, but we could have beat them. We have to make those plays down the stretch," said Charger Coach Hunter Elliott. PIKE CENTRAL JV FALLS 33-29 In the junior varsity game, Pike Cen- tral lost a close one 33-29. The Char- gers got off to a good start, jumping out to an 11-8 lead in the first quarter. Chase Ridao led the way for the Char- gers with seven first-quarter points. He would score a game-high 17 points to lead the Chargers. But a disastrous second quarter did the Chargers in as they were outscored 13-4, making it 21-15. Pike Central put on a push in the third quarter, outscoring Washington 10 -5 to pull within 26 -25 after three quarters. They struggled to score in the fourth quarter, with their only points being a three by Ridao and a free-throw by Howald.
