He was the husband of Ofelia (Yepes) Betancur. Oscar was born in Andes, Colombia to the late Pedro and Filomena Betancur. In addition to his wife, Oscar is survived by his son, Oscar Edwin Betancur and his wife, Gina of Savannah, GA; daughter, Marisela Betancur and husband, Carlos of Philadelphia, PA; daughter; Vanessa Leon- Betancur and husband, Mario Leon of Shelby, NC; ten grandchildren; brothers, Ariel and Octavio; and sis- ters, Omayra, Fabiola and Rosalba. He was preceded in death by Pedro, William, Albeiro and Mariela. No Services are planned at this time but will be announced at a later date. VIRGIL EDWARD WATKINS, SR. Ellenboro - Virgil Edward Watkins, Sr. age 74, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020 at his home. He is predeceased by his spouse, Diane Watkins; parents, James Leroy and Mavis Grace Watkins; and brother, Larry Watkins of Alabama. Virgil leaves behind to cherish his memories his son, Virgil "Pedro" Watkins; daughter-in-law, Frances Watkins; two granddaugh- ters; two great grandchil- dren; and brothers, Curtis Watkins, Harry Watkins and Eddie Watkins, all of Alabama. MICHAEL HENRY CHEATHAM Blacksburg - Michael Henry Cheatham, 60, passed away Friday, January 8th, 2021, at Atrium Health Cleveland. Born in Gastonia, he was the husband of Marie Travis Cheatham and the son of the late Hayden Cheatham and Virginia Wiggins Cheatham. In addition to his wife, Mr. Cheatham is survived by two sons, Leroy Conner of Gastonia and Shaun Travis of Blacksburg; one daugh- ter, Miranda Nelms (Joshua) of Blacksburg; two brothers, James Cheatham of Clover and Dwight Cheatham of Gastonia; four sisters, Ruby Kirksey of Lincolnton, NC, Sharon Styles of Clover, Lisa Cheatham of Gastonia, and Annette Cheatham of Clover; six grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Flora Brown. No services are planned at the present time. SA BEAVER, JR. SA Beaver, Jr., 88, of Polkville, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at White Oak Manor, Shelby. Born in Cleveland County, on May 3, 1932, he was at this time but will be announced at a later date. JOAN HARRIS HARRISON Joan Harris Harrison, 86, of Blacksburg, SC, passed into eternal life on Sunday, December 27, 2020. Joan was born March 5, 1934 to Earl and Eva Harris. She was the wife of Bobby Joe Harrison who preceded her into eternal life as well as her son Howard Dean Harrison (Betty). Mrs. Harrison is sur- vived by her children: son, Joey Harrison (Danka aka Australia); daughter, Debbie Assad (Najib); eight grand- children and nine great- grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane Johnson; and brother, David Harris. Joan will be laid to rest by her family in a Private Service at a later date. JOHN PATRICK MACE Shelby - John Patrick Mace, 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Atrium Healthcare Cleveland. He was born April 15, 1942 in Chester, SC to John Henry Mace and Elizabeth Rucker Mace. John leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife, Rebecca Mosteller Mace of the home; son, John Patrick Mace, Jr. of Calera, AL; daughter, Elizabeth Mace of Mint Hill, NC; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and one brother, Tim Mace and wife Katharine of Charlotte, NC. Mr. Mace served our country in the U.S. Navy. Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. FREDA AKERS SPEARS Ellenboro - Freda Akers Spears, 79, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at her home. She is predeceased by her husband, Harold Eugene Spears; son, Orbin Earl Spears; daughter, Deborah Spears; parents, Denver and Lorene Akers Spears. Freda leaves behind to cherish her memories her sons, Harold Spears, Jr. and John Scott Spears; daugh- ter, Cheri Skidmore. Private Family Services in her honor was held on Saturday, January 9, 2021. DARLENE PARKER BLANKIN Blacksburg - Mrs. Darlene Parker Blankin, 74, of 208 Sunset Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7th, 2021 at Cherokee Medical Center. Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Donald Blankin and daughter of the late W.F. and Virgie Spencer Parker. Surviving Mrs. Blankin are her husband, Donald Blankin of the home, two daugh- ters; Casey Israel (Kenny) of Blacksburg and Courtney Blankin (Jason) of Gaffney; two brothers; Fred Parker (Vickie) of Inman SC and Steve Parker of Spartanburg SC; one sister-in-law, Beverly Allison (Dickie) of Gaffney; three grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Stagecoach Trail, Shelby, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at White Oak Manor in Shelby. Born on November 10, 1934 , she was the daughter of the late Carmie Marshall Willis and Lillie Mae Newton Willis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. McMurry, Sr.; step-mother, Myra Blanton Willis and two brothers, Johnny Ray Willis and Clyde Willis.
