Community Foundation provides $84K in grants to Pike County organizations The Pike County Com- munity Foundation is learn- ing to roll with the punches. "COVID-19 may have slowed us down but it did not stop us. Although we were unable to hold our annual grant recep- tion this year, we just made a different plan, and the grants were mailed to all the recipi- ents," said Cindy Gaskins, di- rector of the foundation. A total of $ 84,000 in grants went to many areas of the Pike County community. Some of the organizations receiving grants were the Dubois-Pike-Warrick Eco- nomic Opportunity Commit- tee (Tri-Cap), Pike Central Middle School Baseball, Inc., Pike County Public Library to help provide Community Connect Outdoor Wi-Fi space, which provides in the age of COVID-19 some much need- ed Wi-Fi. Also receiving funds were T TR Haven Over the Hilltop, Pike County Christian Assis- tance, City of Petersburg to help construct a "Welcome to Petersburg" sign, and Youth First to provide school-based social work prevention pro- grams. Others receiving grants were Petersburg Elementary Music for ukuleles, Tri-State Food Bank, Senior and Family Services, Bread of Life Minis- try, Pike County EMS to help with supplies and apparatus maintenance, Adam Vaal and the new Fire Science Program for needed equipment, Gen- erations, Jefferson Township Fire Dept and Nathan Brad- ford (PCSC) for a plastic in- jection machine. Also receiving grants were Junior Achievement, the mid- dle school music department for music technology equip- ment, Pike County CASA, Lockhart Township Com- munity Center to help with HVAC, Petersburg Fire De- partment to help with replac- ing emergency communica- tion equipment and the Spur- geon/Monroe Township Vol- unteer Fire Department. These awards were pro- vided by the following funds: Grassroots Unrestricted Fund, Friends of Pike Coun- ty Fund, Bryan and Beth Luff Family Fund, Dyer/Wallace Family Fund, Sisson Steel Unrestricted Fund, Wayne and Charlotte Malotte Fund, Angela Warner Fund, Em- ery and Edna Boger Fund, Rauch Family Fund, Mon- tes/Fenol Family Fund, Wil- lis-Parker-Evans-Fowler Family Fund, Burns Fami- ly Fund, Dudenhoeffer Fam- ily Fund, GAB Community Good Fund, Hoosier Energy Community Good Fund, Hel- derman Family Fund, Joann and Wayne Stone Community Good Fund, Lewis Family Un- restricted Fund, Paul and Kar- en Cooper Community Good Fund, Stenftenagel/Cox Un- restricted Fund, Tom and Ash- ley Willis Unrestricted Fund, Schnarr Family Fund, Greg and Carla Willis Family Fund, Wendell and Irene Craig Fam- ily Fund, William and Juanita Bell Unrestricted Fund, Sorgi- us Family Fund and the DeTar Corn Trust managed by Ger- man American Bank. The PCCF also sent checks to organizations that have ei- ther set up a fund for their or- ganization or someone else has done so. Those checks went to: Winslow Commu- nity Center (Marvin Sny- der), Town of Winslow (Mar- vin Snyder), Petersburg Lit- tle League (Marion and Mar- tha Klipsch), PAWS (estate of Dixie Loveless), ARC of Southwestern Indiana (Mar- vin Snyder), First United Methodist Church (anony- mous), Pike Central Middle/ High School Swim Teams (Mark and Elisabeth Luff ), Gary and Jill Keepes, John and Eileen Dudenhoeffer, Pike Central Musical and The- atrical Arts departments (Tif- fani Fisher Thomforde Fund for the Arts, Vance and Shari Hays Fund for the Arts). Just 22 short years ago, the Pike County Communi- ty Foundation did not exist. This year, through the funds named above, we granted just over $ 84,000 to the communi- ty and nearly $ 600,000 since 1999. If you want to be a part of this giving community, you may call Cindy Gaskins at 812- 766 -0550 or email director@ pikecommunityfoundation. org or check us out at com- munityfoundationalliance. org/pike. The Pike County Commu- nity Foundation is proud to be an affiliate of the Communi- ty Foundation Alliance. "They work everyday to make a dif- ference in the communities they serve," said Gaskins. were on the scene until about 5 p.m. Jason said they had tak- en their Christmas presents over to Jacob's house, so they didn't lose those. "The community has been awesome," said Sisk. He said they really don't know what all they have been given yet. "We have so much stuff being brought to us, we can't keep up with it," said Sisk. A school in Boonville is doing a fundraiser for them. "Apparently the principal saw it online and she had been the victim of a fire, so she started a fundraiser for us." There is also a Go Fund Me page established to help the Sisks at https://gofund.me/ b037d32a. He said some items they were given are the wrong size, so they are separating that and giving it to Some- body's Place or Goodwill. They also need storage bins to keep the donated items in. The main thing they need now is a place to live. He said they are looking for a place to rent. "Jake, (his son), has been great to let us stay at his place. They just closed on a house. It is great he is letting us crash there, but we need to find a place." "We appreciate everything that has been going on. It is kind of mind blowing the amount of support we have had. I think every church in Pike County has talked to us. People we don't' know are knocking on the door. I grew up here and knew it was a good place to live. But some- thing like this really opens your eyes to how this com- munity is," said Sisk.
