Hill, 64, of Peters- burg, died December 24, 2020, at home with his family. He was born June 19, 1956. He worked for Buchta's house moving for many years. He was an avid fisherman. He loved the river and Florida. He had a great sense of hu- mor and loved a good joke. He loved his family and friends, especially his caregiver and sister, Flossie. He has one daughter, Vanes- sa LeMasters; and a grandson, Evan. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. HOWARD BRISCOE Howard Briscoe, 92, quiet- ly passed away from natural causes on December 23, 2020, at Lakewood Assisted Living Home, near Petersburg. He was born in Milwau- kee, Wisc., on May 9, 1928, to the late Lester and Blanche Briscoe. He married Jane An- derson, of Vincennes, on No- vember 25, 1953, and she pre- ceded him in death in 2016. He was a U.S. Army veter- an and served in the Korean War. Following his graduation in 1946 from Petersburg High School, He received his un- dergraduate degree from In- diana State and his master's from Butler. He then achieved his higher education require- ments for school administra- tion at Indiana University. He was a pole vaulter on the track team at Indiana State. Following graduation, he re- turned to his hometown to live out his lifelong passion serving as a public educa- tor. He was a science teacher and full-time coach, coaching basketball, football and track throughout the school year. He was the head coach when the school went from 8 -man to 11-man football. This caused many late night meals at home and good memories for Teresa and Brick in "tagging along" to practices and games. During the 60s, Howard was in charge of the Petersburg summer pro- gram and had the patience to often drive a bus load of chil- dren to swim at the Washing- ton city pool. Later, he played a very active role in the Kiwan- is youth golf program. A fter achieving his certifi- cation for administration, he became principal at Otwell first, then Winslow, and upon the opening of Pike Central, he became the first principal at the new school in 1974. Up- on serving as principal for sev- eral years, he moved into the Corporation Office as Assis- tant Superintendent and then Superintendent of Pike Coun- ty Schools, serving in that ca- pacity for ten years until his retirement in 1993. However, his career in education did not end there, as he then worked for Indiana University until age 80 to guide their students in Southwest Indiana through student teaching, further en- suring a future generation of passionate educators. He was a member of the Pe- tersburg Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge and Hadi Shrine, and the American Legion. Outside of being a wonder- ful husband, father, teach- er, coach and administrator, his faith played an important part of his life. He was a life- long member of the Peters- burg First United Methodist Church and taught the men's Sunday School class for years. Also, he was a very willing and capable lay speaker and often filled the pulpit on Sunday mornings at local churches. His lifelong legacy was that he would influence many with his teaching, and his liv- ing example of grace and ease of conducting himself. You would never feel uncomfort- able in his presence, unless you were his playing partner in golf, and his score would be so much lower than yours. He loved to play golf (to say the least); however, he played with the same grace and ease as he lived his life. He had a heartfelt passion to bring a golf course to Pike County, which would eventually come to reality at Pride's Creek. He truly loved the Pride's Creek Golf Course. He and Jane had two chil- dren, daughter, Teresa (Greg), and son, Howard Brick, Jr. (Marta). They then would go on to have four grandchildren, Matthew (Sun), Mark and Me- gan Davis, and Emma (Curtis) Hedges; and two great-grand- children, Colton Davis and Georgia Hedges. A sister, Marcia Thomas, preceded him in death. Due to the pandemic, there will be no public service, and a private graveside burial will LARRY D. HEACOCK Larry D.
