Not feeling well last Sun- day night, I decided to prac- tice caution and stayed home. I went to YouTube and typed in Anthony Burger. Anthony has been gone 14 years and died at the piano doing what he was called to do. His wife stated she felt him highly fa- vored by God that he was tak- en home while playing for his Lord. This was a man who's hands were horribly burned at the age of eight months. Doc- tors told his parents he would never use them. But God said different. I might not have been in the building Sunday night, but I was taken into the Throne room by a man who was gone from here, and the anointing was still on his mu- sic. "It is a solemn thing to part company with the old year," said J.C. Ryle (1816 - 1900), the first Anglican bishop of Liverpool. "It is a still more solemn thing to begin a new one. All before us is uncertain; we know not what a day may bring forth, much less what may happen in a year." Ryle offered this chal- lenge for the days and months ahead: "Walk more closely with God, get nearer to Christ, seek to exchange hope for assurance. Oh that you may endeavor so to grow in grace every year, that your last things may be far more than your first, and the end of your Christian course far better than the beginning." Happy New Year from our church to yours! Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Ecclesiastes says that there's a time for everything, and the new year tends to be a time for fresh starts. It's natu- ral and healthy. Reviewing the old and setting goals for the new brings a breath of fresh air—and maybe even a little excitement—that's only pos- sible when the slate has been wiped clean. God's word is a great place to begin thinking about how we start over and move for- ward. Bible verse for the New Year: "One thing I do: Forget- ting what is behind and strain- ing toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:13-14, NIV ). New Year's Resolutions— Choosing to do the will of God is always a right choice and, of course, has God's en- dorsement. God's favor and blessings should be incen- tive enough to pursue God- ly goals. If anyone has a need, you can call the pastor at 812-354- 3028.
