The other three counties were Benton and Per- ry counties. • Pike County, Petersburg and Winslow combined got more than $1 million in paving grants from the Indiana Dept. of Transportation's Communi- ty Crossroads program. Pike County received $782,303, Petersburg $142,811 and Winslow $105,596. • Dustin Brian Thompson, 38, of 10th St., Petersburg, was arrested on numerous charges, including attempt- ed battery committed with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, re- sisting law enforcement, bat- tery of a public safety official, criminal recklessness, reck- less driving, intimidation, dis- orderly conduct and escape. It all started when Thomp- son drove up and tried to talk to his children, which there was a protective order to keep him from having contact with them. When police were called, Thompson fled, driv- ing 70 mph on CR 300 N., and at one point, stopping to flip off an officer, and then speed- ing away again. At one point, Thompson tried to ram a police officer's vehicle with his pickup. While wrestling with police while they were trying to take him into custody, he told police he had a bomb. • Strong straight-line winds of up to 50 mph slammed in- to Pike County at about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8. It downed trees, power lines, ripped roofs off of downtown Petersburg buildings and at least one store front. Patoka Township and Pe- tersburg were called to a fire that was started by downed power lines in the Glezen area. Patoka Township Fire Chief Brandon Truitt said they got the call just as the storm was hitting. "I thought, this can't be right." Despite the wind and downed trees requiring fire- men to drive off the road just to get to the fire scene and around downed trees, they made it. Before the night was over, Petersburg's Fire Department had a total of 21 different calls for help due to the storm. • Pike County's first con- firmed case of COVID was re- corded on Saturday, April 11. • The Pike County School Board decided to set 2020 se- niors' grades based on seven semesters instead of eight due to the effect of COVID on their last semester. • David A. King, 58, of Pe- tersburg was arrested on a charge of rape, a level 3 felo- ny, and sexual battery, a lev- el 6 felony. • On Tuesday, April 28, Pike County had only one con- firmed case of COVID. All oth- er 91 counties in Indiana had at least 4 cases.
