YEAR END SAVINGS LADIES COLLAR BOSSE BULLDOGS By James Capozella Eight Lady Chargers got on the score- board and Mallory Hunt, Kenzie Pow- ell and Mallory Hickey were in double figures in a 62-36 road trip win over the Bosse Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. A trio of three-baggers hooped by Pow- ell, coupled with Hunt's six baskets in the first half gave warning to the Lady Bulldogs of what was in store for the rest of the game. Down 27-15, with added scoring by Brailey Mills and Hickey, the dogs found more Lady Chargers to contend with when Kya Leighty zinged the nets for four quick baskets in the third quar- ter. Hickey, Hunt, Powell and Mills al- so made for a tough third stop for the hosts, who trailed 48 -25 going into the final stanza. Kahle Young, Keena Young and Shel- by Meadows stepped in and contribut- ed to the fourth quarter scoring and the 62-36 win. Subs took Hunt's place in the fourth and Kelby Leighty, Delany Welch, Madelyn Fiscus and Tiffany Arteaga all got time on the Bosse court. Hickey had a pair of threes, two baskets and two of four from the stripe for a dozen mark- ers. Kya Leighty had eight points and Mills was good for seven. Kahle Young and Keena Young each had two baskets and Meadows had a free throw. Hunt finished with eight baskets and a free throw for a game-high 17 points, while Powell knocked down a trio of three-balls and was a solid four of four from the line. Regarding Lady Charger Mallory Hunt, Pike Central Lady Charger head coach Kyle McCutchan said, "Hunt played a good game. From having scout- ed Bosse, I knew she was going to have opportunities and she did a good job. My halftime speech was directed at my un- derclassmen to get off to a good start in the third quarter to put the game away and we scored the first seven points to start the half which is what I wanted. "Kya Leighty was active in our half court trap and Hickey hit a three off a good kick out from Hunt and I was proud of how we finished the game off." In the preliminary contest, the La- dy Chargers went into the locker room trailing 21-13, but then came out gun- Chargers notch 34-41 PAC duals record Corey Goeppner (195), Jon Cannon (145) and Isaiah Greer (120) recorded mul- tiple wins in the eight-team Pocket Athletic Conference duals this past week. Grif- fin Boyd, Isaiah Greer, Ry- an Gladish, Jackson Stuckey, Skylar Shelton, Isaac Shimer, Kale Speedy and Cody Davis all recorded wins at the duals. Charger coach Caleb Cherry reported matches with Boon- ville, Princeton, Southridge, North Posey, Tecumseh, Mt. Vernon, Gibson Southern and Heritage Hills. Goeppner won five match- es at 195, plus two forfeits and one loss. Cannon won four of his matches at 145, finishing with a 4-4 record. Isaiah Greer (120) won two matches, recorded two forfeits and four losses. Griffin Boyd had a win, four forfeits and three losses at 106/113. Ry- an Gladish received two for- feits and had six losses at 126. Jackson Stuckey was two and two at 152 pounds, and Sky- lar Shelton had a win, three forfeits and four losses at 160. Isaac Shimer had a win, two forfeits and four losses at 170. Kale Speedy won one, got a forfeit and lost six at 182. Cody Davis won a 220 match and lost seven at the duals. Chargers fall by 11 at Southridge By James Capozella Though down 32-17 at the half, the Pike Central Char- gers, led by freshman Quade Morton and senior Sean Hanselman, closed to within 11 points after trailing South- ridge by as much as 15 with less than two minutes to go. Hanselman picked a pock- et and went the distance for a quick score in the third, where Southridge was held to eight points. Kendric Sorgius made good at the stripe when fouled on a three-point attempt and Morton got the score to 38 -25 with a critical hoop, but Raid- er Sam Sermersheim capped the third quarter for a 40 -25 Raider advantage. Threes netted by Morton and Hanselman's last basket of the evening coupled with four of four shooting from the line got the Chargers 13 fourth-quarter points, but it wasn't enough, even while holding Southridge to nine last-frame scores. Sorgius hit his first of two three-pointers in the first quarter and, together with baskets by Julian Gish, Mor- ton and Hanselman, got the Chargers to within four points of the Raiders. Sam Sermer- sheim stepped it up in the sec- ond quarter, adding four bas- kets to his game-high 24 to- tal. Teammates Carter White- head, Camden Gasser and Fernando Hernandez contrib- uted offensively for a Raider 19 -8 second quarter. Sorgius netted a three-bag- ger in the second quarter as Julian Gish and Hanselman completed the scoring with his second basket for a 32-17 halftime on the Southridge court. The Chargers outscored the Raiders 21 to 17 in the sec- ond half, but it was just too lit- tle too late for a winning rally. Hanselman finished with 12 points with four baskets and four of six from the line. Mor- ton added 11 markers to the tally with a pair of three-point- ers and two baskets. Sorgius had a pair of threes and three of three from the stripe for nine points, and Julian Gish had a three and a basket for five. Ethan Gorby finished with one for two from the line and two fouls. Sermersheim knocked down 11 baskets and two of two free throws for a game- high 24 points. Raider Carter Whitehead added 14 mark- ers and Camden Gasser had six. The Raiders were held to single digits in the third and fourth while the Chargers didn't get into double digit scoring until the fourth. Sorgius was two of three from the three-point line and three of three at the line, and led with three rebounds. Mor- ton hit four of six attempts at the two-point range and two of three from the arc. He al- so had two assists, two steals and a deflection. Hanselman was four of six from the line, had two defensive rebounds, a deflection and two steals. Gish was two of four on two-point attempts and one of three at three-point range. Gish was assist leader with three and had one steal. Ethan Gorby took a charge, had one block and a defensive rebound. Charger coach Hunter El- liott commented, "Bottom line, we just have to play hard- er. I was disappointed with our effort, energy and toughness in this game. Losing is one thing, but to come out and not compete is unacceptable. It was not one thing or one play- er, it was our team and that is a reflection upon me. "I have to hold them more accountable for us to get where we are capable of go- ing. For us to win, we have to compete and play really hard, play together and play with a higher IQ. "The sad thing is that we still played even with them Brailey Mills has a goal in mind heading down the court against the Bosse defense. Mills had seven points in the 62-36 in over the Bosse Bull dogs. Chase Ridao handles the ball on the way to the bas- ket against the Southridge Raider JV this past Satur- day evening.
