Stam St. Paul wrote to Timothy, many centuries ago: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness" (II Tim. 3: 16). The Apostle referred, of course, to the sa- cred Scriptures, also called The Bible and The Word of God. All of it, he says, is "God- breathed and profitable," to "teach," to "re- prove," to "correct" and to "instruct." But why, then, have so many heresies and false teachings sprung up through the years – all based upon the Bible? And why have so ma- ny thousands of sincere people been led astray by these false teachings? The reason is that teachers and followers alike have failed to heed another important statement which Paul made in this same let- ter prior to his declaration that all Scripture is inspired of God and profitable. This statement is found in Chapter 2, Verse 15: "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth." The Bible can prove "profitable" to us on- ly as we "rightly divide" it. We must rightly divide the Word of truth for the simple rea- son that if we do not do this we can pervert the truth and change it into error. Through the centuries God has periodically altered His dealings with mankind. Many religious rites which were commanded in Old Testament times are positively forbidden in this present dispensation of grace. In Old Testament times, for example, ani- mal sacrifices were required for acceptance with God, and from John the Baptist through Pentecost water baptism was required (Lev. 17:11; Mk. 1:4; Acts 2:38), but some years af- ter the death of Christ Paul was sent forth with "the preaching of the cross," and he declared that: "We have redemption through [Christ's] blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace" (Eph. 1:7) "Being justi- fied freely by [God's] grace, through the re- demption that is in Christ Jesus" (Rom. 3:24). Hello friends, it's that time again to put fin- gers to the keys and write a few thoughts for you to decipher. In the newspaper last week there was a let- ter to the editor which sounded like he was writing about something I said about all the uproar concerning the president's legal bat- tle over the mail-in ballots and all the changes that went on in different states. Like required dates to be sent in by or post-marked by. I am honored if this letter did concern my oped be- cause this man is respected by many right to lifers. He has my support concerning abortion and how terrible it is. My concern was not whether Trump wins or not but what America looks like to other na- tions. Have we really become a nation of cheat- ers? I hope not! The America I love and respect should try to treat one another with the same respect that our Lord treats us. I don't like to see anyone hurt and I do my best to never hurt others. Why can't we all respect one another and each other's opinions. Saturday while I was ringing the bell for the red kettle a friend from IPL came through and we got to talking about things we had seen and how things are going now. Kevin Abell was the friend I'm talking about and I often heard him called Kevon or just plain Abell. Kevin was like all the others and was great to work with and seemed like he made things go well. Kevin was definitely good natured and kind which made being around him pleasant. I pray ma- ny blessings on Kevin and I hope good things come his way. I had my first "facetime" doctor appointment last Monday and it sure went a lot better than I had imagined it would. They asked my weight so do you fudge or tell it like it is, in my case my weight was honestly way down because of losing 20 pounds from being sick. I was able to tell the doctor what was going on and with my records in front of her, she was able to tell me the old liver was at least working which is good news to me. Our grandson is in pre-school at Petersburg elementary and with the adjusted schedule I get a free day from being his driver on Wednes- days. This is a break for us because it seems as soon as you take them to school it is time to go after them. It hasn't been real good for getting things done at home. On this past Wednesday it was so pretty that grandson and I swept up three loads of leaves from the driveway. Being sick has gotten us way behind. I don't think our grandkids will ever catch a break from being sick because now little Wil- low has a bad sore throat. It seems as though they always have something new for grandma and papaw to catch. "This is how the birth of Je- sus Christ came about: Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to ex- pose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had con- sidered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit, She will give birth to a son and you are to give him the name Je- sus, because he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to ful- fill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel," which means, "God with us" (Matthew 1:18 -23).
