We might be presented with some- thing that seems terrifying. Stepping through the un- known takes courage, and courage isn't always avail- able. Frank Renner, Pastor Rev. Mark Wade,Deacon FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 By the time we read this, the election is probably over, but as I write, Americans all over the country are lining up to cast a ballot. For many, this is the most important elec- tion of their lives, and maybe, the way you view the country, it is. Here is what is true re- gardless, no matter who won on Tuesday night, the church must respond in the coming months. Here is what I mean. It is of no shock as a member of my generation, I have a so- cial media account on almost every major platform. And across everyone one of them, at the core, even Christians are divided more than ever. And it is shocking more than ever to hear the words of Jesus, that a kingdom and a house divid- ed against itself will inevita- bly fall. The fall of morality we see all around us, will contin- ue as long as the church isn't one, just as Jesus prayed, we would be. Now is the time when all be- lievers will gather and worship in Spirit and Truth in one loca- tion. Not Democrats worship- ing on this mountain, or Re- publicans on that. No but all believers worshiping one God. What matters as we move for- ward is how we will band to- gether and pray over our neighborhoods, communities, schools, first responders, and especially our churches. We must pray for spiritual wisdom, pray that God strengthens us in our spirit, that we may live in unity, and stand together shoulder to shoulder against the enemy and the schemes of VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. The Apostle Paul mentions gifts in Romans Twelve. He writes, "If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is con- tributing to the needs of other, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern dil- igently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully" (Ro- mans 12:7-8). "Let us therefore come bold- ly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16). I am never tired of pointing out that the Greek phrase translated, "in the time of need," is a collo- quialism, of which "the nick of time" is the exact equiva- lent: That we may have grace to help in the "nick of time." Grace just when and where I need it. You are attacked by temptation, and, at the mo- ment of assault, you look to Him, and the grace is there to help in the nick of time.
