Stam The newspapers are filled with sensation- al news these days, but the divine extension of this present age of grace is the most sensa- tional news of all, yet most newspapers rare- ly, if ever, mention it. We are prone to take the blessings of our times too much for granted. We forget too eas- ily that for more than 1900 years the world has been ripe for God's judgment — ever since His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, was crucified and sent from this world a royal Exile. All through the Old Testament Psalms and prophets it is clear that the world's rejection of Christ was to be visited with awful judgment. The Second Psalm, describing the world's re- jection of "the Lord and His Anointed," goes on to say: "He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall He speak unto them in His wrath and vex them in His sore displeasure." In Psalm 110 :1, too, we have the Father saying to His rejected Son: "Sit Thou at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool." Yet, when all seemed ready for the divine judgment to fall, God interrupted the prophet- ic program and saved Saul of Tarsus, the "chief of sinners," the leader of the world's rebellion against Christ. More: He appointed this Saul, as the Apostle Paul, to proclaim "the gospel As we move into the 21st Century family stability is coming under increasing pressure from a variety of changing factors. In our pub- lic educational system God is attacked or ig- nored and our textbooks neglect our Ameri- can heritage and plant the seeds of socialism. Life seems to move at a faster pace and we have few absolutes. Our culture is filled with sex and family values taught in the Bible are in short supply. The morality that helped protect our youth and safeguard our homes is thought of as old fash- ioned and out of date. This has brought many emotional problems and filled the hearts of many with pain and anguish. Those families that value love, respect and morality are coming un- der new pressure to ac- cept sinful practices. We now have our most dan- gerous threat to govern- ment in American histo- ry and most Bible stand- ards are banned in the public arena. Abortion, same-sex marriages and pre-marital sex are ac- cepted as the norm. The Bible teaches that male and female are blessed of God for the purpose of having children and experiencing happy lives. Our culture puts Greetings, if we were in a "Star Trek" ep- isode we might say" live long and prosper." Good way to greet one another because there is much meaning to living longer as you are asking for their life to have many years while asking for their prosperity or well being. If we would all pay attention to these words and es- pecially mean them for one another it would be a more peaceable life in this sometimes cold world. This week I am going to give Steve Drew a shout-out. Steve didn't have a nickname as such although I have heard him being called Drewby. Steve was a USO which stands for Utility Shift Operator and he was supposed to be able to fill in for any operator position if needed. Steve finished his career on the com- pany side as the man who help write up how to proceed with many of the operation jobs. Safe- ty became a big emphasis at IPL and his pro- cedures played an important role in our safe- ty. Steve is a deacon at Arthur General Baptist church. I pray blessings for him and his family. The Christmas decorations are going up and we get closer and closer to being done each day we work. We could still use helpers and if you want to help drive by the park and help us if we are working. We do need younger people to step up if they have the time, because the guys CHURCH CHURCH Notes Notes Notes Baptist Baptist Continued on the next page Upcoming Events Early church note deadline for Nov. 11 edition Due to the Veterans Day holiday, The Press-Dispatch will be published a day early on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The parable of the good Sa- maritan reminds us that our neighbor is not just the per- son next door, but everyone we meet, especially those who are not "like" us in some way. When their world and ours col- lide, God can use our neigh- borliness to show His love and mercy to those we might think would never be interested in hearing about Him. "Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ" ( John 1:17). The word grace means more than just God's kindness or gentleness towards us, or even His mercy. It means His undeserved favor. It means God owes nothing to us, and we deserve nothing from Him. When the Bible say "by grace you have been saved" (Ephe- sians 2:5), it means our salva- tion was totally unmerited. It came solely because of God's grace. The motive of grace is the infinite compassionate love of a merciful God, but the work of grace was Christ's death on the cross. Imagine Christ hanging from the Cross, the spikes in His hands, the crown of thorns on His brow, His blood draining from His body, the soldiers mocking Him, then we can begin to see the infinite of God's grace. Then know that nothing can equal the love of God nor a sinful world. But God's grace is al- so exhibited when we humbly bow before Christ in repen- tance and faith, for then we find forgiveness. Thank God for his grace, for without it, we would have no hope. If at any time you have no church to attend, your pres- ence will be greatly appreciat- ed and I am sure you will leave
