C-2 Wednesday, October 21, 2020 The Press-Dispatch Church Note Deadline 10 A.M. TUESDAY Church of Christ Catholic Catholic Christian Independent Church of God Baptist Continued in next column PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the ROSS "Trick or Treat." No home is complete without the pitter pat- ter of kitty feet. This week, PAWS is featuring a pre- cious, fun-loving fel- low named Ross, who loves to hide in the kitty condos at PAWS, among oth - er things. He is very rambunctious, always involved in some type of kitten antics, IS a yellow tabby with big green eyes, a big kit- ty heart, is approxi- mately six weeks old and can be adopted by calling 812-354- 9894. Continued on the next page October is Pastor Appre- ciation Month. We are very grateful to Pastor Ralph and Sister Jeanie for all they do for our church. We are so blessed to have them and their family as a part of our church. "Be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my say- ings; Let them not escape from your sight; Keep them within your heart" (Proverbs 4:20 -21). In this troubled time for our country, this verse is more important than ever to Christians. We should al- ways keep God's word and His promises in our hearts. Nothing can give us peace and comfort like knowing we serve an all powerful and very loving God. Remember to cast your cares on Him. We are remembering those who have lost loved ones this week and those fighting illness. So many are facing some kind of bat- tle. We know we don't have to face them alone. We invite you to worship with us. Ralph Newkirk, Pastor Marla Morrison, Reporter AYRSHIRE VALLEY G.B. CHURCH 1947 E. Co. Rd. 375 S. "Be kind to one another, ten- derhearted, forgiving one an- other, as God in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:32). Some may contend that the way for the church to make a better place is to become like it. But whenever the church does this, it ends up compro- mising its spiritual authority and losing its influence. In- stead of changing the world, the world changes it. God doesn't want us to isolate our- selves. In praying for His dis- ciples, Jesus said, "As you sent Me into the world, I have al- so sent them into the world" ( John 17:18). If we isolate our- selves from others, we have no impact and demonstrate a lack of love. But neither does God want us to become like the unbe- lieving world. We are to be separate, refusing to adopt its motives and patterns of behav- ior. The Bible warns, "All that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is joy of the Fa- ther but it is of the world" (I John 2:16). Let Christ fill your life, and there won't be room for the world. If at any time you have no church to attend, your pres- ence will be greatly appreciat- ed and I am sure you will leave feeling blessed. Jerry "Tuffy" Blackwell, Pastor Sharon Kendall, Reporter WINSLOW G.B. CHURCH 600 E. Union Street Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; Sunday evening soup and sandwich fellowship at 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday, adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m. First Wednesday of each month Advisory Board meet- ing before Bible study at 6 p.m. and business meeting to follow. Social distancing is still in place and until further notice, there will be no children's church or Sunday night fel- lowship. Thought for the week: "Do not be anxious about any- thing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which sur- passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Phi- lippians 4:6 -7). Be in prayer for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders, and always each other. God's blessings on you this week. Try to be kind and show God's love, because everyone is fighting some kind of battle. If you don't have a church home, we invite you to any of our services. Gary Watson, Pastor Nyles Head, Assoc. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 One of my favorite worship songs is "Jesus is Better" by Austin Stone Worship. I love this song because it constant- ly proclaims one single truth, "Jesus is Better." He is better than my failures, he is better than my successes. Jesus is better than any addiction, he is better than riches, he is bet- ter than comfort. Simply said Jesus is better. My prayer is that this would become your decree over your life and home. We are in the middle of a seven-week study in the book of Mark, all about hope. We all need hope during these times. Last Sunday we dug into Mark 2 when Jesus an- swers questions about fasting and the sabbath. Jesus brings us hope, by showing us that he is better than our rituals and traditions. Traditions are good, it brings joy to us when we con- tinue family traditions. Like- wise, the traditions, especial- ly the religious rituals, of the Jews in Jesus time, was intend- ed to bring God glory, and fill his people with hope in him. But Jesus flips this and shows them, he is the hope, these tra- ditions were intended to point to him. Your traditions can crumble but Jesus won't. The challenge is this, what tradi- tions might we place our hope VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. Prayer and Belief "Therefore I tell you, what- ever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." (Mark 11:24, NIV ). Sometimes we lose sight of the fact that as Christians, God is our father and provid- er. This scripture is one that has taught me many things. In the scripture, every time Jesus healed someone, he would ask in some way shape or form, "Do you believe that I can heal you? " When they would say yes, he would tell them, "As you believe, so will be your healing." Imagine for a moment that you are blind and the only thing you have to do is have complete faith in this man and your sight will be restored. But what if you be- lieved that he could only heal partially, so you could only see shadows? Would your sight be completely restored? The an- swer is no. God can do so ma- ny things in your life and for your life if you would only be- lieve. Think on this and talk to God, he listens and cares for all his children. God bless you and keep you.
