C. O'Hair For some years a little girl passed our win- dow at Berean Bible Society each day on her way to and from school. Every time she passed she would smile, wave and throw a kiss. Occasionally she would come in to tell me something special, and I was always impressed by her natural refinement. One would not have wished to meet a sweeter child. One day she came in to show me a picture of herself, all dressed up for her "first com- munion! " "How pretty! ", I exclaimed. "But do you know what happened at the very first com- munion supper? " "Yes," she said, "they killed Him." "That's right," I agreed, "but there's much more than that." She had given me a wonderful opportuni- ty to breathe into her little ears, what St. Paul calls "the preaching of the cross", "the pow- er of God unto salvation to every one that be- lieveth". If only we could persuade all of our readers of "the truth of the gospel", (ICor.15:3), and that "by Him all who believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the Law of Moses" (Acts 13:39). This is why St. Paul could tell the trembling Philippian jail- or: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). Mork from Ork would say Nanu Nanu but I'll just say hey. I'm feeling lots better for now and my desire to get out and do something has returned although I still cough like crazy. The cough hangs on forever or so it seems. My wife is still feeling poorly and she went back to the doctor. He told her had to be tested for COVID before he could give her any med- icine. I think she must feel some better or at least I hope so. Two friends lost their lives to this horrible virus and I wish something would stop it soon. Dewey and Cindy Johns were friends and when I heard about her death and Dewey fighting for his life I was inspired to write a song which on- ly took about five minutes to write. It probably won't ever be a top 10 song, but my wife said it was good. So when my toughest critic says she enjoyed it, I was pleasantly surprised. I titled it "The truth and the Prayer". It tells how we have left God out and how our lusts and greed have destroyed His love in our nation. I'm really sur- prised God has put up with us as long as He has. I am going to give a shout-out to Mike Mur- phy or "Murf" as he was called. Murf worked in the lab and did sampling for IPL. He was a good golfer and took care of setting up weekly golfing on Monday evenings. I was never any good at the game, but Murf would usually end up with me on his team and I was able to make a few putts but if we ever used any of my oth- er shots it was pure luck. Somehow he would just tease me a little and go to the next shot. I hope and pray God blesses him and his family. For the fun of it I looked up the history of free elections on the net and you know you can be- lieve anything you read on the net. There has been party platform as long as there have been elections. Their partisan platforms were most- ly about who their allegiance belongs to not the things which separate us in our parties. Their elections seemed to only be done by their state legislators rather than popular vote. It didn't seem to have much media bias which is very obvious today. By the time our elections are held you have either thrown a rock through your television screen or unplugged it from the world. The major media networks who keep stirring the political strife are Fox and CNN as they pro- mote their choice and seldom tell both sides of anything. For once I would like to hear a calm voice explain what is happening in this world. Look at how they are doing their best to get Dr. Fauci and President Trump to be at odds with one another. Our President often speaks from the cuff and doesn't mean things the way they come out, but you can believe there will be someone there to make an issue out of it. The same thing goes for his challenger because Mr. Biden is full of facts that somehow don't always add up to what the fact checkers are ready to call him on. So you make up your mind and don't allow any- one to confuse how you feel whenever it is your turn to vote. A friend and were I talking and he said he didn't feel as safe in church as he once did. I can understand how he feels. This virus is dead- ly and you don't even realize when you are ex- posed or when you are at risk. We must keep our faith that God is still in control and that we need to be strong enough to resist the world's calling us back into unbe- lief or sin. Stay in contact with your Christian friends and encourage one another often. We are the church and how we deal with one anoth- er is very important to our lives. Go out to bless others when you can and love one another. I have been a Pike County resident my entire life. I am running for County Council At-Large and I would appreciate the opportunity to serve you. I grew up working and growing our family business and feel my leadership skills will be a great asset to our community. My family and I have a proven record of successful businesses and growth. How many of you are tired of seeing our community merely maintaining? I have a comprehensive plan that if implemented will bring growth to Pike County. I fully support our police, sheriff, fi re and ambulance departments. I will push to reinvest tax dollars for the people. Also, I will try to get funding for a public swimming pool, skate park and a lighted walking path. Please get out and vote. I feel that this is going to be one of the most important elections for our freedom and way of life. ~ Nathan W. Evans Paid for by candidate RIVER OF LIFE 342 E.
